Re: The Executioner (MMA) is suspected of killing his wife and commiting suicide
this thread should die... there are tons of people who are huge fans of MMA(like myself) and just because you dont like doesnt mean that you have any right to come on here and say its not a "real sport" and make fun of a murder-suicide... thats just wrong.
MMA is a totally different realm that our typical sports like basketball and football. You have to train for many years to become a proficient MMA fighter, you arent born with natural talent like NBA guys are.

Well Chiefs actually used to be somewhat good before Edwards came. Chiefs have actually won a superbowl before. The reason I follow the Royals and also the Brewers is because I don't like to jump on the bandwagon of the Cubs. I like to see teams who usually don't do to well succeed. You guys follow Iowa State Football and Basketball how can you enjoy watching that? Its the Same thing.
As far as MMA how come ESPN never broadcasts it. MMA is very overrated, I don't see the big hype on it. All MMA consists of is a bunch of steroided infested *****. Everybody is always trying to become the next MMA or UFC superstar. To tell you the truth, I don't this article on the The Executioner killing his wife and himself is helping the MMA's rep either.

I don't think anyone is arguing that MMA fighters aren't talented athletes. If they are, they're ignorant.
With that said, being an athlete doesn't make it a sport. Professional wrestlers are athletes, too. I have a hard time defining exactly what a sport is.
I do know that I don't like MMA, though. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just does nothing for me. I know I'm in the minority, but I would much rather watch boxing.

ESPN is now starting to report the outcome of some of the fights. Does that make it a sport?. Icould care less if ESPN covers a sport. For god sakes they have the world series of poker on half the day. Not many of these players would be considered close to being an athlete. You may not care to watch MMA, but that doesn't make it a nonsport. If anything MMA is a truer sport than any others out there. Two guys enter a ring and one exits the victor. No goofy rules like you have to bounce a ball for every step or some big guy has to bend over while another guy places his hands in his crotch to take a snap. To guys mono et mono and no excuses for the loser other than they got beat. That's a sport in my book. I do personally think their crazy for doing it, but don't really mind watching other people do stupid things.

UFC is quickly replacing boxing. i think many people have the misconception that it is all about blood and brawling, but that stems from the early days when thats what UFC was but it has evolved a lot. now it is very competitive and there are many extremely skilled fighters.
and the UFC has very tough drug testing. these guys arent on steroids. they have to fight at specific weights so it really wouldnt help to be constantly packing on muscle. if you have too much muscle it limits you flexibility which you really need fighting on the ground and doing jiu-jitsu
