Driving a NASCAR requires a very high level of certain skills that many other Athletes may not have and some skills that they do, hand and eye coordination, along with stamina, endurance, and concentration at a high level are absolutely required. Add to the equation that at any moment the activity they are partaking in could very well cost them their lives, and they certainly have my respect. I have seen very few John Kruk or Tony Siragusa types participate, except for maybe a little pudgy Tony Stewart. For the most part these guys look in great shape.
It is a very entertaining sport, with gifted Athletes (imo).....
P.S. I think if they would ever bring back the "Superstars" competition of the early 70's some of you would be surprised....?
Jimmy Spencer is the most out of shape driver I've ever seen (he's not in the circuit anymore, he's the one who punched that whiny ***** Kurt Busch). Tony Stewart has nothing on him. Then again, a lot of these same people in this thread claiming that racing is not a sport will also tell you that golf is a sport. John Daly, anyone?
