Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
do to Kasas City budget short fall. Sanders Worried About Losing Chiefs, Royals - Money News Story - KMBC Kansas City
Thursday, Mayor Mark Funkhouser put forward his plan, which includes eliminating nearly $2 million the city gives each year to the Truman Sports Complex.
Sanders said if the city pulls its $2 million annual contribution, it would break the lease and leave the city with no written guarantee keeping the Royals and Chiefs in Kansas City for the long term.
dang it spelled chiefs wrong, mod please fix.

Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
All of the large MLB markets have pretty much been filled. Portland is about the only city left that could probably support a MLB team. You MIGHT be able to throw San Antonio in there and San Juan, PR if you really want a stretch... Combine that with the improvements to the stadium and I don't see the Royals going anywhere...

Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
Won't happen.... its just a scare tactic to keep the city contributing their money... no way would either leave after Jackson County taxpayer like myself just gave them $700M and renovations were just completed on the stadiums.

Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
I would be absolutely shocked if this happens. Seems like this always gets brought up and nothing ever happens.
Then throw in the stadium renovations, not going to happen

Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
In short, this won't happen.
edit: The mayor who made the proposal is the one on the left:
Looks like a winner.

It started out "Save our Stadiums" and became "Save our Teams" as they got more and more worried the vote wouldn't pass, they weren't ever going anywhere, at that time the Chiefs were the most profitable team in the NFL.

Hope this doesn't happen. This wouldn't be good for the midwest in general.

Makes sense. I'm surprised San Antonio doesn't have more teams with being the 7th biggest city in the country. Must not have a big of a metro area.
What about Oklahoma City, Charlotte, Nashville, or Memphis? All of those cities are larger than many of the cities that currently hold teams.
Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

Well charlotte has the carolina panthers i believe. And Nashville has the titans.
From the MLB standpoint, they are farm teams located in each of those cities, so then they would have to re-adjust and re-locate the farm teams. Because i dont think an MLB and a triple-AAA club could both survive and prosper.

Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
I doubt it will happen either, with all the money they put into the stadiums. With this stuff going on, how in the world are they going to attract a NBA or NHL franchise that they build the Sprint Center for?
-
Re: Cheifs, Royals could leave KC...
There would certainly be a very big economic impact if they were to actually leave...
But seriously, Sports venue vs Police and Fire Departments? This shouldn't even be a debate
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy
