I wonder if the scoring had anything to do with field position, etc dictated by special teams and the offense ...?). I didn't make up a ranking for their defense, I merely said it wasn't that bad. If that is a crime then I will forfeit my posting priveledges on this site. No biggie. But there is a big difference between what I'm being accused of and what was really said.
I stand by my opinion on Cutler. The Broncos will be better off without the guy.
No offense, but Cutler accounted for 74% of their yardage and 49% of their scoring in 2008. It sure doesn't seem like he was dragging them down. You're talking about removing the QB from the 3rd ranked Passing offense in the NFL, and you think they will be better off? I realize that you are a Bronco fan, but unless they bring back John Elway, you have to expect some kind of drop off.
Scratch that, Elway never did what Cutler did last year. Cutler passed for over 4500 yards. He ranks 17th on the all time list for passing yards in a season. Elway's 1993 season is his best and ranks 68th.
You may be correct in saying that the Broncos are better off, but it is just very unlikely.

He's a Chargers fan btw. But lets us not stray from the topic at hand, sunset has no idea what he's talking about.

I've been cordial in stating my opinion. You obviously disagree and feel some sort of superiority on the topic. You can really stop with the badgering now.

I just don't want others in this thread to be duped into thinking that you know what you're talking about, it's more of a PSA than anything. Knowledge is power.

I would disagree with this, as a Denver Bronco fan since the veritcle strip socks (1960). I was not a Jay Cutler fan, his 1st full year, but alot of that was explained away with his illness. This last year he showed me some moxy and progress as a NFL QB. I think he had a bright future with Denver, and then came the Coaching change.
His offense was light years ahead of the Defensive problems Denver has had the last few seasons....
The Broncos handled this situation poorly (imo)....

Would the Texans have any interest with Kubiak there? I think he was at Denver in Cutler's rookie year. I know they have Schaub, but would be interesting.

Re: Jay Cutler Gone
The local Sports show here this morning spoke with the Broncos Beat reporter this morning (Lindsay something). She was saying that it's going to be tough for many teams to make the move on Cutler. According to her, the Broncos want a lot of draft picks for him. The radio guys were asking about the Bears and why she hadn't mentioned them and she said, "I did think about mentioning them in my article, but I know they'll never give up what the Broncos are going to want for him." There was no mention at all about the Vikings. Mainly the Jets.
There were no specifics mentioned, but I'm assuming this isn't going to be a typical, "We just want to get rid of him." Scenario. In fact, the discussion went the way of Detroit being the most likely candidate. Because the ownership and new coach are so upset, they'd trade him there out of spite. Because Lindsay wasn't sure Denver would really get what they want for him.
It was on 670 the Score in chicago. All speculation and hearsay (it's sportstalk radio after all) for the most part, but I thought I would mention what was talked about.

I dont even get what you are trying to say here. the stat is when the defense actually does good or goes against someone they can stop they are 13-1 with cutler. when the defense sucks like normal they are what his record is 15-18 or whatever to lazy to look it up. I am not sure who told you he hasnt had a bad defense they have been the bottom 5 the last seasons. hell the lions had a better defense this year then the broncos.

You two are in agreement - the fact that the Broncos have had a poor defense is the main reason why they have lost those games. He was taking a verbal stab at that poster with what he had quoted.

I was trying to show that their defense was terrible for the past two years, and that even though when their defense is "on" he has a good record, the majority of the time the defense is not "on." Sorry if my words were not clear. I definitely think that Denver will miss Jay way more than Jay will miss Denver.

I think he could be really good. Well time to look to the next QB. Graham Harrell anyone?

However, I have gotten a kick out of the arguments and the proposed trades that would only take place in fantasy FB. I think Cutler is a good QB, but he is not great. Although Denver's defense has been bad (much to the fault of Shanahan's personnel moves), the fact is that Denver's offense with Cutler at QB has failed to score more than 17 points in 14 of 32 games the past two years - seven each year. For perspective, Detroit averaged just under 17 ppg last year and we all see how many wins they had. As great as Cutler can look in some games, he can look very average the following game.
I honestly think that this whole situation has been very well manipulated by Cutler/Cutler's agent in an effort to get a big payday. Cutler only received a $1.7 million signing bonus when he signed his deal in 2006 and is scheduled to make $1.035 million in base salary this year. He could get another $4 mil by being involved in 70% of the offensive snaps, so most likely he would earn $5 million. Next year - currently set to be uncapped and where Albert Haynesworth is to receive nearly $25 million ($21 mill bonus and $3.6 mill in salary) - Cutler was again to only receive $1 mil in base salary with a $4 mil roster bonus. The following year he was set to get a $12 million roster bonus so if they hadn't made a deep run in the playoffs by then, he probably would have been traded or cut and have to negotiate a contract under the terms of whatever new salary cap is put in place by 2011.
Compare that to Matt Cassell who will earn nearly $15 million this year, and you can see why Cutler would want a new deal. Knowing he wasn't going to get it in Denver (since they could easily wait a year and if Cutler remained inconsistent, trade him or cut him to avoid the roster bonus and then sign Cassell themselves) he has made it impossible for Denver to keep him so that he will be traded and then negotiate a new deal that gives him a chance for a big signing bonus and then a large front-loaded base salary in 2010 so that instead of making $10 million the next two years, he will probably earn around $25-35 million and have a longer contract (probably through 2015) which could pay him another $30 million or so as I expect he will seek a deal somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 years for $85-95 million with $40 mil or more guaranteed. Sorry for the length of the post, I am an NFL and numbers nut.
