    Cubs Release Gaudin

This surprised me when I saw it. I thought he could end up as a decent pen arm/swingman for the Cubs, but they obviously didn't want him to eat his 2 mil+ salary like that. Was he pitching that badly this spring?

    Re: Cubs Release Gaudin

He pitched horribly this spring with a 10.26 ERA but I still don't think they should have released him, especially for someone like Patton.

    Re: Cubs Release Gaudin

Because they waited this long the Cubs have to pay 1.6 mil of the 2 million salary if Gaudin gets a minmium deal. It will be interesting to see what happens because I don't think he ever recovered from his back injury he had last year. I like the way Patton has thrown the ball this spring and hopefully for the cubs he keeps it up.

    Re: Cubs Release Gaudin

Yes, But because the Cubs waited untill today to do that he couldn't be put on waivers and have the Cubs hope that someone would claim him and his 2 mil salary. Now the Cubs have to the difference up to 2 mil based on any contract that he signs

    Re: Cubs Release Gaudin

11:27pm: Peter Abraham of the LoHud Journal reminds us that the Cubs released Gaudin in April, so they're on the hook for all but the pro-rated league minimum. Surely the Cubs wish they'd non-tendered Gaudin, but perhaps they needed the spring to decide. - Tim Dierkes
9:31: Kepner tweets that the "plan is for Gaudin to start off in the bullpen."
9:17: Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that the Yankees "owe roughly $650K to Gaudin the rest of the year."
9:07: Tyler Kepner of the New York Times is reporting on Twitter that the Yankees have acquired RHP Chad Gaudin from the Padres for a player to be named later.
Gaudin signed a minor league deal with the Padres in April. He is 4-10 this year with a 5.13 ERA, but he is averaging a strikeout per inning and his FIP is at 3.68.
