I wish Maclin had fallen a couple more places, I think that would have been the perfect first day for the Vikes.
I think the Eagles had one of the best drafts I've seen, with Maclin a steal at 19 and McCoy a huge steal at 52. What exactly are the Eagles going to do with two players who are very similar wih Maclin and DeSean Jackson? Posted via Mobile Device -

Re: Vikes' Draft
Vikes take Asher Allen, junior CB out of Georgia with their third round pick. Numbers are 5'9.5", 194 lbs, 4.44 40. Seems to be an OK pick. Good athleticism, but perhaps needs some work on technique. Could see some time in the Nickel this year.

Re: Vikes' Draft
I'm OK with this Allen pick. They say he has exception character is a hard worker, and has a lot of toughness.
The big area for him to work on are his ball skills as he can bat the ball down alright, but isn't really an INT guy...

Re: Vikes' Draft
Allen's 40 time has been all over the place though:
He ran a 4.7 at the NFL combine. At Georgia pro day he ran a 4.33 Georiga Pro Day info.. Asher Allen ran a 4.33 40 and talked a lot with TD. - FalconsLIFE
I think his official he is listed at is 4.53, but I am not really too worried about it in general. I want to see how he plays, rather than how fast he runs a 40 yard sprint...

Yeah, after all, Ced Griffin's 4.63 40 time was entirely meaningless... "Hey! I'm building something here!"

Not too difficult to be an upgrade to what the Vikes currently have. Harvin might also contribute in this area.

Vikes trade up to get LB Jasper Brinkley at 5th round: Jasper Brinkley - College Football -
Re: Vikes' Draft
Initially I was a little upset when I saw the Harvin pick, but have since warmed up to it quite a bit. One of the biggest things that helped was backing it up with Loadholt in the second. I really wanted to see a right tackle in the first round, but honestly after looking at it I dont think Britton or Oher would have been that much better and would have been a stretch at 22. A lot of people like Oher, but I think a big part of it is his story that gets him overvalued somewhat. As far as Harvin goes I think one misperception people have is when they think of him as a typical wide receiver. He is more of a luxury guy, underneath runner and receiver with definite return potential. He gives any offense more dimension, much like a Reggie Bush type player.
As far as the two later round picks I think they are good depth/need picks that will fill into the depth chart and should both be able to help on special teams.

Re: Vikes' Draft
Allen played last year with a broken hand. Depending on exactly what his football speed is I think this was a good pick. I'd have kinda liked to move back a little but that's ok. The Brinkley pick Was a head scratcher for me because of the fact that they really don't need a LB and even if they wanted to make this pick the fact that they traded up to get him shocked me. The 7th rd pick out of Mississippi I thought was a decent pick

Re: Vikes' Draft
Is 40 speed really that important with cb's? I'm thinking the first step and having enough strength to chuck at the line is much more important.
