Re: Only 10 BCS teams without a player drafted
With Texas Tech having Crabtree go in the first round, is it true ISU is the only Big 12 (since its inception) team to never have a player go first round?

we'll hope its just a one year fluke.
How many of our senior starters did we lose?

We also were one of the youngest teams in the BCS. Some correlation there.

The other stat I find kinda funny is that UCONN had 4 players picked and Michigan,Noter Dame and Miami (FL) had a combined 4 players picked.

We will always be young...we are ISU.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Re: Only 10 BCS teams without a player drafted
It's a one-year sample, guys. If we had no players drafted in the last 10 years, I would be concerned.
EDIT: Just saw this.... http://myespn.go.com/blogs/big12/0-8...ft-picks-.html

ISU was previously tied with TTU and Baylor for this honor, but both of those other schools had guys drafted in the first round this year (Baylor's Jason Smith was the # 2 pick). Now ISU stands alone. I think this could change with Leonard Johnson waiting in the wings. Which Big 12 team produces the most top NFL draft picks? - Big 12 - ESPN -
Re: Only 10 BCS teams without a player drafted
There is a whole lot a person can glean from this, but it is true the less "out going" players you have the less likely you are to have draft picks. The problem with that is UF and Iowa among others both have a lot of returning players and still had 3 and 4 players drafted respectively. Furthermore both programs will have several more players sign free agent contracts (Iowa already has 4, not sure about UF) and I’m not sure if ISU will or wont????? The point being in order to get the program on a level where the 2-10’s become 6-6 or 7-5’s at worst a program has to always be moving talent on to the highest level year after year. I assume that is what the original, poster was saying.
I also agree it is telling when these power house recruiting programs like Miami, UM and ND (who although they have had record down turns STILL sign top 15 classes almost always) only put in 4 together (I haven’t verified this by they way, hope it’s accurate), though again they’ll undoubtedly send some in via free agency.
It shows how hit and miss recruiting rankings truly are and how important a good coach (Kansas) and development is. And more importantly “evaluation” as many of these programs like Wiscy, Va Tech, Iowa, BC rarely sign top 20 classes but continually (regardless of record) send several kids to the NFL. Year after year both through the draft and via free agency.
Another point of interest, is much maligned Ohio State & PSU from the unathletic/slow Big 10 put 5 and 4 kids in the NFL again (I think OSU has more than anyone) while the supremely gifted and talented Texas and OU put in 2 & 4 respectively. Truly it all comes down to line play and then solid QB play, which was a huge weakness in the Big 10 last year. Also you can’t take momentum and attitude out of the equation either.
It is also quite telling how far the mighty have fallen, (UCLA & Washington) For most all of the 80’s & 90’s they were far and away better programs than USC. It’s a cycle…………………….
Note all numbers came from Yahoo draft tracker (so I can't guarantee their accuracy) and again doesn’t include the fact that many of those teams will ultimately send kids on to the NFL via free agency. Chad

Only a Hawkeye fan can compare the Hawks to the defending champion Florida Gators!

Re: Only 10 BCS teams without a player drafted
Another thing I noted was at some point in time these High School kids are going to have to note, these "spread" programs are NOT highways to the NFL for QB's. When Chase Daniels and Graham Harrell both go un-drafted it is quite telling one would think. Another quick point that I think most of the reasonable posters on here understand is when I make comments using Iowa. It isn’t to "inflate" but rather because I know the most about them and need a base line. When I throw in other teams it isn't typically for comparison but again they are programs I know something about, and also so it doesn't look like I’m being a Hawkeye homer. Again I know most already understand this but thought it was worth mentioning as I enjoy this site and most of the posters. I definitely don’t want to irritate reasonable guys; I just like dialoguing this stuff out. Chad

Re: Only 10 BCS teams without a player drafted
It also helps if your college coach has some connections in the nfl. Then when you say that that this particular kid should and can play in the nfl they listen a little bit more and are willing to take a chance more. I think that ISU is under a coach right now that maybe able to start getting players to but in and get more talented players and get kids better in a system instead of refusing to adjust the system and if the kids don't fit then tough

Well then you have more ears to talk to period. Chad
