    Re: Favre

Some people on here are blinded by what he was and are forgetting what he is in 2009. To me this has bust written all over it.

Did you see some of those Jets games during the second half of the 2008 season?! No thanks.

Last year I was in favor of the idea so to me it's not about him being an ex-Packer. It's that he's one more year washed up, one more year of a has-been and one year less committed to the game.

In the end, taking a chance w/ Brett is not worth the circus. Sage all the way for me and it has little to do with his ISU ties.

I don't mind him coming... I just don't want the circus that comes with him... It'll be a zoo...

Anybody who tells me I'm not a Viking fan because I don't want to support and/or cheer for Brett Favre is not my friend. I don't even want to share teams with them. I've spent close to 30 years cheering for the Vikings, a good portion of those years cheering against Favre and hating him. It would be like having Pierre Pierce on the ISU basketball team or Drew Tate at QB for Cyclone football.

Do you honestly think the Jets would have won as many games without Favre?

Maybe not, but it seems he single-handedly lost just as many games as we won for them. At best he is the same player as last year and that player is not head and shoulders above Sage.

I don't feel good about putting the season in the hands of a guy who may or may not even care about winning more than two games on the schedule.

    Re: Favre

I'm torn. As a Vikings fan I have always had this love/hate thing about Brett Favre. I used to love how the Metrodome noise (and some pretty good Dlines) would rattle him. At the same time, there were many, MANY times that I wished that the Vikings had a QB with the talent and guts that he had.

In the end, I think it is an experiment worth trying.

I also think that this has been quietly in the works for a long time. With the exception of Sage, they really have made no effort to shore up the QB position through either drafts or trades.

If it has been in the works, then the Vikings are idiots for dropping the cash on Sage. Might as well have drafted a QB.

    Re: Favre

As just an NFL fan, I think many are forgetting about the player Farve was at the beginning of last year. The guy was pretty much the league MVP at the 1/2 way point. The 2nd half was god awful, but many say he was hurt, or worn down. Maybe at this point Farve just wants another ring and is willing to platoon to save himself more than last year. Also, I think if you look at the last 2 seasons Brett proved he can't play in the cold, whether it be Green Bay or New York. In the dome that isn't an issue. I love Sage, but I still think if the Vikings want to win now, having Farve on the roster, even with the drama that goes with it, is a good thing.

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

2 years ago Brett Favre finished second in MVP voting behind Tom Brady

Last year he was in the MVP discussion until late in the year. Did he run out of gas or was his arm that bad?

My point is to anyone who thinks he can't still play.....he obviously can, and he can at a very high level

Not that I don't think Favre can play, I just get tired of the same drama EVERY off season for about the past 5 years. At the end of the year he says I am done, and has some tearful speech, and then come May, like clockwork, he wants to play again.

    Re: Favre

I have been a Vikings fan since the franchise started. I am pretty mixed on this. I would like to see it tried, but if he doesn't perform, then I would hope Childress would have the nerve to pull him, but I am not too confident in that.

What does bother me is what does this do to Sage's and TJ's confidence? Yeah, Favre has been great and all, but what kind of a signal does it send to them if the team apparently thinks a 39/40 year-old qb is better than them right now?

    Just my 2 cents.

And, of course, being a Falcons fan, that is one of my favorite wins (of course, the win at the 'dome in January of 1999 is my favorite).

My personal take on this - Favre is showing about as much maturity in this situation as the most popular girl in HS who first gets snubbed of the Prom Queen by some girl no one anticipated winning, then the girl's boyfriend dumping her to go out with the Prom Queen - and then being told after the fact that the reason why all of this has happened behind her back is because she has been a first-rate ***** to everyone in her life her entire life.

Favre obviously doesn't care about leaving a lasting positive legacy in Green Bay. It seems like ever since the Packers told Favre last year that they were giving Rodgers his shot that Favre has taken this thing personally and has done everything in his power to stick it to the Packers organization. I think over time the Packers faithful would have "forgiven" Favre if it was just all about extending his career. If it was just the Jets for a season, maybe another team a year later, then fade into the sunset, I'm pretty sure Packer fans would have quickly gotten over this and would have gone down in Packer history with the greats such as Starr and Lombardi, despite his many statistical flaws and blown playoff games.

However, by all appearances, the "extension of his career" doesn't seem to be the case. It seems like ever since the Pack told Favre they're giving Rodgers his chance early last year that it his been his goal to stick it to the Packers organization by offering his services to the traditionally hated Vikings - and in the process sacrificing his "God-like" status in Green Bay. I remember he wanted to go to Minnesota last year, but the Packers wouldn't allow it as a stipulation of the terms of release. Now that he's "under contract" by the Jets (who have no vested interest in keeping him from going to Minnesota), he is now able to get his "revenge" against the Packers, and as a result will burn whatever goodwill he had left with the Green Bay community. Instead of being remembered fondly by the Packer faithful for the Super Bowl win and NFL records he has set, he is going to be reviled for setting the NFL record for interceptions and all of the opportunities that were blown by the Packers - all things the fans previously were going to gloss over as they erected his bronze statue in front of Lambeau Field. Instead, that is now going to be his legacy in Green Bay - that and going "Benedict Arnold" on them.

As a person with no sticks in this fire (okay, technically I do - Favre, as everyone knows, WAS drafted by the Falcons) - this has to be one of the most incredible flame-outs I have ever witnessed. A guy giving up his God-like status to stick it to his former organization by playing for their #1 rival simply because he feels snubbed - WOW...

    Re: Favre

Not that I don't think Favre can't play. But this is worse than M.J. at least M.J. retired, came back for an extended period of time, retired, and then came back again.

All we will have to look forward to is Favre retiring at the end of the season again. It is getting a little old, he made a fool of himself last year with the whole drama with Green Bay, and now he's doing it again. It's time Brett, it's time.
