Greg Maddux number retired today
What could have been. Go into the Hall as a Cub, Greg.

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
Um, pretty sure he'll be in as a Brave.

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
They are also retiring 31 for Fergie Jenkins at the same time...
41-51 Record in CF Mafia. The most games played and wins by any player in Cyclone Fanatic History. Yes, I'm a nerd. -

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
No objective baseball fan can say he should go in wearing the Chicago cap.

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
If you ask me, it appears that the Cubs are somewhat latching on to his success as an Atlanta Brave.

He was in Atlanta for nearly every year of his prime.

Either that, or the Cubs made one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history by not re-signing him in 1992. He won a Cy Young with the Cubs, so you could make the argument that the Braves latched onto his success as a Cub.

Cubs, make a mistake? Never!

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
I thought this move was more to honor Fergie Jenkins, and the Cubs are just honoring Maddux while they're at it since he had the same number. Jenkins is a Cub HOFer who should've gotten this honor long ago. Maddux is a Brave HOFer who happened to give the Cubs a few good years too.

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
I love Maddux. One of the best pitchers of this era. I hope he goes in as a Brave.

Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
3 Cy Youngs, 11 gold gloves and 194 of his 355 wins as a Brave...I dont think there is any question what cap he will be wearing...Oh yeah, and a World Championship in 95 -
Re: Greg Maddux number retired today
What makes his accomplishments even more incredible was that he did it against guys that were juicing. I mean, the power pitchers of the era like Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez being awesome against all those roided up guys is one thing, but players like Maddux and Glavine who didn't usually throw in the 90's being great is another.
