I think they are. They will at least be in it, and the AL Central should be a pretty mediocre and even division all year.
The main thing is, they have good starting pitching.... and it will be getting even better soon when they dump Ponson and bring up Hochevar, who is dominating completely in Triple A right now. We really have a shot this year.
The thing that kind of makes me feel better about their chances is that these last 2 wins were set up perfectly for your typical crappy Royals loss (and I've seen too many of those to count) but they somehow managed to win the game. They took 3 of 4 from Toronto who still has the best record in the AL as well.
They played around .500 for a good chunk of the end of last year and I think they're a fair amount better this year. The pitching will keep them in a lot of games and hopefully prevent the brutal losing streaks they've had the last few years. Nobody in the AL Central looks capable of running away with it at this point so I think they can at least compete.
