Steve Stone
Can someone enlighten me to what happened between him and the Cubs? He makes Hawk tolerable, and I can't say I listened to him much before this year, but God, he's good.

Re: Steve Stone
He criticized some players when they performed poorly, but were expected to be a very good team (one of Dusty's last years).
The players were in the clubhouse listening to their team's game or something, heard it, and were full of anger and complaints. So we let Steve go and kept the whiners.

I thought the final straw was that towards the end of the 2004 season, Stone really went after Dusty in a postgame interview. Basically questioned Dusty's managerial skills on the air, in front of other reporters.

I'd sure hate to question Dusty's skills -

I also remember he criticized Dusty. He had a knack for saying the Cubs should do something (like walk a guy), but the Cubs didn't listen (they pitched to the guy), and they immediately got burned (the guy homered). After that happened a couple times in one game, Stone asked Dusty about it in post-game, and Dusty thought he was second-guessing his decisions.
I think most fans thought Stone was right at the time, and were sorry he was let go.

Next to Milo Hamilton, the guy is the worst play-by-play guy in baseball.

I think most fans thought Stone was right at the time, and were sorry he was let go. Steve Stone is a major reason that I like baseball, and especially the Cubs. Listening to him taught me a whole lot of anything that I know about baseball. The guy has an incredible mind for this game.

LOL, they just showed Gomez talking to his bat...Stone says "he probably told it to fly out to center, ground out, and strike out."

Hawk is disliked by many because he is a huge homer. I tend to like him showing his passion for the sox on the air.
furthermore, cubs fans cant talk because they still have ron santo. -
Re: Steve Stone
Moises Alou and some other smuck in the bullpen apparently was watching/listening to a game in the clubhouse and called up to the booth is how it all started. Personally I think Dusty Baker should have been asked why his players even know what is being said while a game is going on and were allowed to call up to the booth. I like Bob Brenly but I do miss Stone's commentary. He could call a pitch before it was even thrown and you always seemed to learn something new every game. Sox fans should be grateful the Cubs were dumb enough to run him and Chip off.
