Fox called up, Miles to DL
Cubs call up Jake Fox and two others, send down Bobby Scales and Neal Cotts, put Aaron Miles on DL | Hardball
In a shake up of their roster, the Cubs made three moves today to help their lineup and their pen.
Jake Fox, who is hitting .423 with 17 home runs and 50 runs batted in for Triple-A Iowa over 40 games, was called up. Joining the infielder from Iowa is shortstop Andres Blanco and left-handed reliever Jason Waddell. Blanco is hitting .314 with 4 home runs and 25 RBI. Waddell has made 18 appearances for Iowa and has a 5.40 earned-run average.
To make room for Fox, Blanco and Waddell, the Cubs put Aaron Miles on the 15-day disabled list and sent down fan-favorite Bobby Scales and lefty reliever Neal Cotts, who has struggled to get out left-handed batters this season.
Can't believe how much this team improved today. Getting rid of Cotts and Miles is huge. Hopefully Fox can come in and provide a boost to the offense.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
Not sure why Bobby Scales was sent down. I thought he was playing well. I'm guessing because they needed a backup shortstop and he can't play SS.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
I know I said the Cubs only had 3 lefties (Lilly, Marshall, and Cotts) on their 40-man roster...what I did not realize was there was only 36 players on that roster. With today’s additions the 40-man now has 38 players on it. They should probably have Mathes on the 40-man as well...he has been doing well down at Iowa. -
Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
The Bull pen has really been lacking so far this year. Ramirez being hurt seems to have really hurt as well.
I still like the makeup of this team, but we just don't seem to have the same chemistry as we did last year.
Still it's early and despite the losing steak, we're not that far out.

about freaking time Fox got the call up. i dont care that his defense kind of sucks, we need his bat

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
Fox batting .423 over 40 games is amazing...he deserves a shot.
I'm confused about Scales...I thought he was doing a decent job at 3rd and his offense was above average as well.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
I'm pretty sure Scales was sent down because he is still sick. Sucks for him but we can't waste a roster spot for someone who can't even play. Hopefully he will be back up once he spends 10 days in the minors.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
The call up is well deserved for Fox. That guy was straight raking in Des Moines. Scales was sent down purely because he's not a SS. Blanco can probably contribute as much as Miles. It really makes you miss Ronny Cedeno. Cotts has been a bust with the Cubs.
If any of you watched Baseball Tonight last night, Kurkjian said he expects Hendry to start making some moves, BIG MOVES. This team could use a shake up.

Plus with Miles out, that leaves no backup to Theriot at short.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
big moves are needed. there are guys out there that could really help this team... can we get them though? who knows. hendry needs to go out and shake it up

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
It's about time!!! I like the Cotts is finely out of the pen now too. Waddell can't be any worse. I'm guessing Scales will be back up once he's healthy and Blanco will go back down.
The question now is do they actually give Fox some at bats? Hoffpauier has been playing for Lee and Bradley lately, even played in LF to give Soriano a rest, when Lee is back do they use Fox like they have with Hoffpauier and Micah gets AB taken away? Right now I'd like to find a way to have both Fox and Hoffpauier in the lineup as much as possible and see if either can get on a roll with regular playing time.

Re: Fox called up, Miles to DL
Wonder how much Fox plays. Also kinda wondering with the earlier comments if this isn't a little bit of a showcase for Fox in hopes of trading him to an AL team so that he can DH.
