Oh this will be interestin to see how Man Utd. stacks up next year if he leaves, because there goes a lot of goal production, but this probably means Tevez will stay. This will be a year for Arsenal to catch back up, Liverpool will probably be the favorites for next year. real madrid spend millons and millions every year as well. in any case they both spend more than anyone and still dont win everything. arsenal wont catch up unless they learn how to spend a little. tevez will probably sign with man city soon, at least rumored to be going there. utd rumored to be after ribery, benzema, valencia, maybe villa

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for world record fee
Real Madrid are where they are because they were General Franco's favorite team before Spain became a democracy. This latest spending spree was all inevitable since the Real Madrid club members elected a new president, the one from the original Galactico era. The clubs whose supporters vote on leadership have a way of electing those who make the most promises of glory to come. Madrid seriously over-pay for offensive and flashy players, like the two advanced midfielders this week. A few new strikers are next on their wishlist. Defensive needs are not a top priority. The summer that they signed Beckham, they let the great defensive midfielder Claude Makalele leave for nothing.

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for world record fee
I am liking all of the soccer talk. I didn't realize how many fans there are on this site.
Do any of you guys watch English Premier games on a regular basis? I find it hard to watch in the states. I have been to an Arsenal game before and it was a blast! If I lived abroad, I could get into this so much more.

They need to avoid injuries is whats been the killer the past few years. I'd like to see them go after Yaya Toure, I really wanted them to go hard for micah richards of man city, but that didnt happen. I think they'd need to finally go for a defensive midfielder like Yaya Toure, and a solid Centre back to replace Gallas. Its apparent that the Kolo Toure and Gallas partnership isn't effective.

Micah Richards, ugh, no thanks. Yaya Toure has been linked with the gooners for years, I really don't think he'll come here, especially with Kolo's future still somewhat in doubt with the club. I'd really like Hangeland from Fulham or Zapata from Udinese in defense (though the Vermaelen from Ajax thing may work out well too) in addition to a solid holding mid in the Yaya Toure-mold. Plus a striker (Dzeko from Wolfsburg?) if Adebayor is sold.

Not sure I can agree with this considering they have set four straight records for transfer fees going back to 2000 and just did it twice in a week. They're also the team that bought Beckham, Zidane, Figo, the other Ronaldo, and plenty of other players well after they made their name elsewhere.
I can't believe they can even afford to drop $220 mill on 2 players with the economy the way it is. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

I wouldn't worry about it. They got super rich over the course of several years. They are such a big name that almost everyone I know at least knows the name "Real Madrid". On a worldwide level, I'd think them and Man. U might be the two most famous sports teams in the world...
