Re: Shaq traded to the Cavs
I can't understand why anyone wouldnt think this is a great deal for the Cavs. Shaq has a ONE year contract, this gives them lots of flexibility to make a move in the 2010 FA grab. I don't think this makes the Cavs better than Boston, LA or maybe Orlando next year but its going to allow them to the opportunity to go after a big name following next season, and Lebron will have a ring within 3 years.

Re: Shaq traded to the Cavs
Basically what this thread has shown us is that we don't know who will win the East, and that is a good thing.

What we are arguing over is what is going to put them over the top. You think Shaq will. I disagree. I think they need more athletic PF/C to help guard the pick and role.

Well, I stated my stance on page one, but here is the flip side...
Shaq will be motivated in a new town. He'll be motivated to try and take it to Kobe w/ LeBron. It doesn't cost them a ton of money to do. And, it will help the team.
However, like I said before, I just don't see negatives getting beat out by the positives on this one.

Sure, he's a future Hall of Famer, but he's wayyyy on the decline, and he doesn't seem to address the Cavs needs. A young athletic PF/C would have done that, but an old, overweight, slow big man does not.

However, like I said before, I just don't see negatives getting beat out by the positives on this one. I'm pretty much on the same page with ya here, my main point was that its an upgrade over Wallace and it should have a good financial impact, I see it going 1 of 2 ways, with the same end result. Either the Cavs win it all and Shaq retires or they fall short and Shaq retires...I'm leaning towards the latter. But regardless Shaq got Kobe's name out of the headlines, and ensured that he'll be associated with the biggest story in the NBA for the next 12 months or so.

Shaq is an upgrade ... and they really get 1 center all- year now, as one of the two will be injured at any given time.

Re: Shaq traded to the Cavs
I think that its interesting that Shaq says he told the Suns GM he didn't want to go to Portland back in Feb when they supposely had interest but yet Portland denies even talking to the Suns
