That being said, it's a lot easier to say you'll sign for less when you haven't seen what other teams are willing to pay.
I honestly dont think he is about the money, like you said he has enough for ever. He is huge in St. Louis and does a lot for the city, I think he is just a different cat, I think he goes against the norm when it comes to superstars

If you had asked anyone at the end of regular season in '06 which team was going to advance to the World Series, nobody would have said St. Louis. The Cardinals didn't have any pressure on them in 2006, because nobody expected them to do anything but get beat.
If the best team win the World Series every time, then the Angels should have won it last year, and the Dodgers should win it this year. Nope, it doesn't work that way no matter how much you try to rationalize it.

I agree for the most part, the baseball season is just so long that you could make the argument that during the course of the season that the team playing the best baseball changes from week to week or month to month. Teams just have to find a way to make it into the playoffs and hope they are hot at that time. I think thats been pretty obvious this decade.

When it comes time to re-sign, St. Louis won't be able to afford him unless he gives them a discount.

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
The Cards were the best team in baseball in 2006, just like they were in 2004 and 2005. They choked in the previous 2 years, but had basically the same team in 2006 when they finally got it right. I was one of those guys who called it in 2006, before, during, and after they won it.

It all comes down to how you're playing at the time. If a call goes your way or you luck out and get a couple bloop hits, that could be the difference between moving on and going home. Baseball is a great game. If true, the cubs were unable to even pick up the dice and to toss them. Getting Swept twice goes much deeper than luck.

However, to say he would take a paycut to stay in STL is ridiculous. I'm asuming the guy heard someone say that Pujols would be willing to play for the Cardinals for less money and didn't understand what that meant. Less money means less than the market rate not less than currently making.

oh I agree that St. Louis cant afford him if he decides to leave, but dont think he will. If he retires a Cardinal he might take the place of Musial as the greatest Cardinal, and St louis loves Stan the Man. Im fairly young and I got goosebumps when I saw Stan the man at the ballpark. I think he likes that more than money

True to a point, but there are a lot of plays that are close that can swing momentum and then who knows what will happen. The toughest game for the Cubs to win right now is the first one. In a five game series, it's so important to get off to a good start.

Right on here, I dont think he cares about another 20 mil or whatever it would be.
Even if its less than market value, he is still doing pretty good, he's not greedy and does give alot of money to charity anyhow

You have to have the team, but baseball seasons are long for a reason. Slumps are inevitable, and after that large of a sample size, you get the best teams in the playoffs. The margin for error in the playoffs is so small. Baseball is a game where anyone can beat another team and it is not shocking.
This is why I thought the WBC was stupid. A best of three series proves nothing.

If you lose that game, it makes game 2 a must win.

He's going to go for 25-30 M on the open market. If the cards can lock him in at 20 M now they should.

If he had Carl Crawford speed he'd be the perfect ball player. I guess he'll have to settle for being almost perfect...
