When it comes down to it, Albert is going to do what every other player in his position does - take a look at the piles of money on the table, and take the biggest one.[/QUOTE]
You know Albert personally do you?
I'm not in his Fave 5 if that's what you're asking. I'm simply going off of history. Pujols is the kind of player that will attract a Manny Ramirez type salary on the open market. I don't know when his current deal expires, but I don't think the Cardinals can afford 20 million for one guy.
Have you read any of my other posts about in this thread?
Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
I think Pujols has one more year left.
Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
Joe Strauss of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the Cardinals are now downplaying a potential Halladay trade, mentioning that they have too little pitching and won't include centerfielder Colby Rasmus in a deal.

His current contract expires after the 2011 season.

If they were asking for Rasmus, no wonder. I think that he'll be a perennial All Star long after Halladay has hung up the cleats.

That sophomore slump is a *****. See: Soto, Geovany.
Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com hears from an AL executive who would be "very surprised" if White Sox GM Kenny Williams isn't pursuing Halladay.
The White Sox have seen attendance drop and Gordon Beckham appears to be untouchable. This means the White Sox could have trouble paying Halladay or enticing the Blue Jays with a package centered around Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers.

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
Cards GM John Mozeliak seems less interested in Halladay now that he has "lowered his sights in the trade market" and the Yankees and Red Sox don't believe Ricciardi will deal within the division.

It is, but to be fair he hasn't been healthy all season long. (I know thats not a good excuse but it could be why he's playing like ****)
Also, If the Cards do indeed get Halladay, What will the cubs do to keep pace?
Offensively, can't really see them going and getting a big time bat. They just need everyone to get out of their slumps.
Pitching....They could use another Starter to replace Wells (even though he's been doing fine) A rotation of Dempster, Z, Harden, Lilly, and ________. Any thoughts on another pitcher to keep pace with the cards?

Are you serious? Wells isn't even arbitration eligible until after next season. Lilly's contract runs out after next year, and Hardens runs out after this season.
Wells and Lilly have easily been the most consistent pitchers on the staff all season.
There might be a starter on the team who needs to go, but it isn't Wells - especially when you consider that he's only making the league minimum this year, and will only be making the league minimum next year.
Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
When I said replace wells I didn't mean trade him. I wouldn't want that to happen. he's a fairly young guy. 25 maybe, and he has a lot of promise.
My thinking behind this is that if the cubs are going to make a playoff push that they are going to want to rely on experienced pitchers.
And if they make the playoffs no doubt Z will be one of the starters. Lilly will probably be one also (lefty). The other one will be interesting. Harden has struggled this year, and i'm just not a big fan of dempster and his ability.
I would just like to see them pick up another starter. that's all.

Gotcha, and really can't argue with anything you said there. The only difference I would make is putting Z at #3 in the playoffs. He hasn't been consistent enough this year to warrant making him the #1 guy in a short series - where game 1 is uber-important.
Now, you could say I'm crazy for that, but look at it this way - how many #3 guys would match up well with Zambrano?

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
When all is said and done, I think the guy will either be traded to the Phillies or remain a Blue Jay. From what I keep hearing on the radio, the Phillies are the one team in the mix where they have the minor league prospects as well as it's a move that will make them significantly better now without significantly harming them in the future. Other teams, such as the Angels and Cardinals, would literally be "betting the farm" on this move - and in the Angels' case, they may have to give up Jered Weaver to bring in Halliday, which means they wouldn't even be significantly better as an end result.
