Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
MLB.com's Jordan Bastian hears from a source that reports of Halladay being traded to Philly within the next 24 hours are inaccurate.

I would not be surprised to see a trade including Billingsley and Pierre, but IMO that would be a mistake. Bills is a perennial all-star in the making, and Kershaw is a future Cy Young winner. I'd prefer they do nothing. Why mess up a good thing? They've got 3 solid starters for the playoffs if Bills gets out of his slump. Trading him would be a wash for getting another starter, and he's only 24. Moving Pierre would not be smart either but I can see him being trade bait. I even heard Martin would be considered. They've done such a good job of protecting these kids, I don't see why they'd want to trade any of them now. It could really screw with the chemistry.

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
Bob Elliot of The Toronto Sun reports that only the Phillies and Yankees have scouts watching Halladay tonight.
Speaking on Sirius XM, commissioner Bud Selig said "I was told by somebody with pretty good inside knowledge that they won’t get rid of him," referring of course to Halladay. He followed that up by saying "Now, whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. And, you know, clubs are going to start bidding it up."

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Cardinals will attempt to deal Troy Glaus before the July 31 trade deadline.
Glaus is currently rehabbing with Triple-A Memphis. He's still unable to throw across the diamond, but may be attractive to American League clubs who can stick him at DH or first base. The Giants, Braves, Rangers and Tigers are expected to scout him in the minors over the weekend.

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi at FOX Sports are reporting that the Angels have "intensified their bid" for Halladay. The Jays are said to be asking for one player from the Halos' major-league roster and "another who could make an impact in 2010."
Additionally, Jays officials are said believe Halladay's past two brilliant outings make their recent offers "reasonable." Sources don't believe a deal will be completed this weekend.

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
We heard from FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal yesterday that the Cardinals are now trying to move Troy Glaus because he's unable to throw more than 60 feet. He'd work well as a DH-type in the American League or a first baseman, if NL teams decide to step up. Rosenthal listed the Giants, Braves, Rangers and Tigers as possible trade partners, but we can now cross Detroit off that list. As Chris Iott of MLive.com notes, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the club has no interest in Glaus. "Believe me, with all due respect to Troy Glaus, his name has never been mentioned here, to my knowledge," Leyland said Saturday afternoon. "I want to nip that in the bud." -

Re: Cardinals to make strong offer for Halladay
As Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes, "The Cardinals may not be done trading, but it will only be fine-tuning or shredding." They're currently trying to deal third baseman-turned-designated hitter Troy Glaus.
