Cubs looking at Lugo?
Cubs, Cards & Mets Asked About Lugo
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 17 at 2:56pm CST]
The Cubs, Cardinals and Mets have shown some interest in Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo, according to Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald. The Red Sox will have to pay all of the $13.5MM remaining on Lugo's deal if they release him, so they're likely to pick up the vast majority of the contract in any trade.
How many middle infielders do the Cubs need?

True I knew I forgot a word

Re: Cubs looking at Lugo?
We already have a glut of horrible middle infielders. They don't need another one.

How many middle infielders do the Cubs need? I'd eat his entire contract if they'd take Milton Bradley and they pay 1/2 of his remaining contract...

Besides, Milton busts his *** every day, unlike his counterpart in left. If everyone else on that team tried as hard as Milton does, they'd be running away with the division.

How many years is Lugo signed for, is this his final year? Cubs are still on the hook for $20 mil over the next 2 years for Bradley's contract.

And he's right. If we're going to swap them a bad contract, the left fielder is the first to go. I think he still has like 20 years left on his.

Re: Cubs looking at Lugo?
OK, ESPN broke it down: Boston Red Sox designate SS Julio Lugo for assignment - ESPN If he was in his final year I'd unload Bradley for him in a heartbeat and save some money and a roster spot over the next 2 years but Lugo still has 1 more year left on his deal.

Re: Cubs looking at Lugo?
I wouldn't trade anything for him. I got a question if the Cubs were to sign him to a free agent 1 year deal like they did Ryan does that means that they have him for the rest of this year but he still had a year plus on his contract.

Re: Cubs looking at Lugo?
And so ends one of Epstein's only failed experiments...I'm sure the Red Sox are willing to take on all the salary for some pretty raw prospects, since the alternative is taking on the salary for nothing.

Do you think Soriano would have dove for that ball up against the fence on Sunday. Not against the ivy (which Milton has done twice this year), but against the paper thin padding down the line in right?
