How does Boston respond to losing 4 straight to the Yankees, and 6 straight overall?

hopefully by losing another 6 straight.

I really hope Texas gets the wildcard over them and the Rays. Beckett and Lester are both excellent pitchers that I'd really like to not have to see come playoff time.

Re: How does Boston respond?
I think they can kiss the division goodbye. The Yankees can hit AND pitch...Boston can pitch but can't hit.
I think Tampa is a better team and will win the wildcard. The Red Sox are similar to the Cubs and go through long stretches of not being able to score any runs. The difference is the AL East is loaded and the NL Central is below average.

probably 2-3. probably split the series with Detroit, and then lose the first game of the Texas series.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -

a) wear opposing pitchers down
b) get more pitches to hit
c) not strike out
I think Texas might get in just because they aren't in the East. Toronto isn't exactly a slouch in 4th in the East. The Rays playoff hopes could come down to the last series of the season vs the Yankees in Tampa.

Re: How does Boston respond?
I said this the last couple nights, and I'll say it again:
Well, this season's over. Glad NFL is starting up. At least the Sox will win the WS next year!
Don't believe me?
'04 - Won WS
'05 - Lost in the playoffs
'06 - Failed horribly in the second half
'07 - Won WS
'08 - Lost in the playoffs
'09 - Failed horribly in the second half
'10 - WS baby!!!

Do they want the Sox or Rays in? Sox are their hated rivals and Rays pushed them out of the playoffs last year. Could be interesting.

Youkilis, Bay, Varitek, Drew, etc. aren't going to stay hitting crappy forever. Not to mention it's not like they weren't hitting crappy pitching. CC and Burnett are above average pitchers, and the way Pettitte's been lately he could fit in there. Hughes and Rivera are arguably the best setup-closer combo in the majors right now.

The only pitcher that scares me is Kazmir because he owns the Yankees. The Yankees will have an interesting decision as to who is in the postseason rotation and how they set it up (should they get there). CC doesn't have a great playoff history, Burnett has won a ring, Pettitte has been there many times, and Joba is making a case for why he should be in the top 3. If they go CC, Burnett, Pettitte, games turn into 6 inning games or even shorter with Joba-Hughes-Rivera.

Re: How does Boston respond?
I think the Sox will rally for the homestand. The division is definitely slipping fast, but I'm not ready to panic yet. We did win the first EIGHT games versus the Yankees this season, and we still play them six more times. Hopefully getting Bay back in the lineup will help with our anemic hitting.

There is really only one valid reason to hate Michigan football, and that is the fact that we taught Notre Dame the game. -

The best thing about the Rays are that they aren'tthe Yankees or Red Sox.
