According to the New York Times' Tyler Kepner, the White Sox have acquired Alex Rios from the Blue Jays. It's a straight waiver claim. The 28-year-old Rios was due roughly $60MM more on the seven-year contract he signed last April, which will take him through the 2014 season with a club option for 2015. Rios is hitting .264/.317/.424 in 479 plate appearances for the Jays this season. With the Jake Peavy acquisition already in the books, that means White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf has taken on more than $100MM in future contracts for the Sox.o the Blue Jays will receive nothing in return.
When I saw Buster Olney talking about this last week I couldnt believe it...I still dont. I wonder who the Sox will move...Wise? I hope Dye & Quentin arent hurting more than we know

Well Williams has basically gotten his offseason shopping done this year. Adding Peavy and Rios that makes up for most everything they los. And he can afford to do it as the White Sox's have a bunch of money coming off their books after this year

My guess is they send down Wise because after the year the White soxs could lose a bunch of players

They do have a lot of money coming off the books but they also lose a lot of sponsor money as well (which was why williams did nothing last off-season). From what I have heard they are pretty significant sponsors

What like US Cellular? It would be nice to see it as Comisky again, but that isnt going to happen in this era. Jim Beam & LG are the other 2 I could think off...some car company had the fundamentals area naming rights too I think, probably Pontiac or something that is going bye bye

I don't know which ones they are, I have just heard the sports talk radio guys on 670 (white sox so it isn't cubs biased) talk about it a number of times this year
Will be interesting to see how Ozzie juggles the lineup. I don't think it necessarily means Dye is gone, though it probably does mean either him or Thome are. It depends on what kind of payroll they'll be able to have next year.
At the very least, it's nice that the White Sox finally have a guy who can play CF and isn't a completely liability at the plate.
