I'd be surprised if there were many teams in baseball that have that kind of depth in the minors.
DeRosa wouldn't have made that big of a difference (sorry fellow Cub fans)
2. This will turn out to be a wash by the time Bradley's contract is up. Dunn's numbers will look better in the boxscores, but you have to keep in mind defense, baserunning, etc.
3. Kerry Wood is without question a better closer than Gregg. However, he's not $10 million dollars better.
The Cubs season took a big hit when A-Ram went down. Add that to Marmol's struggles and Fontenot struggling and you get a second place team. People forget how good Fontenot played in limited duty last year. Had he played at that level this year people wouldn't be nearly as critical of the Derosa trade.
Anyway, it's not like this team is that far away.
There's always next year:wink:
Hind site is 20/20....As for Kerry...disapointed, as for DeRosa, disapointed
Signing bullpen guys is a crapshoot every year. I wasn't real thrilled with the Gregg signing, but every year you see guys get signed that have terrible years. Bullpen guys are just terribly unreliable.
I think the injuries are the biggest thing to this team. This hasn't panned out as his best year for offseason moves, but the logic of getting more lefthanded was a solid idea.
