San Francisco is a really interesting team that I hadn't thought of since I completely dismissed the NL. That may be a worthwhile risk for that team, even though Thome has played four games in the field in the last three years.
Why would someone trade for him a half hour before the deadline if they aren't a contender?
Only guesses I have are Texas or Tampa. Maybe New York, but I doubt they want Damon playing center in the playoffs.
I could see Cleveland trying to take him home. While crazy, they've done dumber things lately.
I don't see any way the Yankees signed him. They have nowhere to put him. Infield is pretty much set and they have 3 guys to use as utilities. Outfield is going to get crowded when/if Gardner comes off the DL.
