Morneau done for the season
The Twins found out Monday evening that their slim chance to catch the Tigers has gotten even slimmer. Justin Morneau has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back. Treatment is 3 months of rest so he should be ready for next year.
There is some speculation that he might have been playing with the ailment since shortly after the all-star break. He has missed time with dizziness and various aliments while seeing his production drop off significantly in the 2nd half of the season.

Re: Morneau done for the season
The way he has been performing since the all-start break, you had to wonder if something wasn't wrong with him, other than just being tired or something. Cuddyer is adequate at first base, and this will likely get Gomez more time in centerfield. Too bad though. Hope he recovers well for next year.

Re: Morneau done for the season
The real sick thing is the Twins may make a run at the division without him. The Tigers have been slumping lately, and the Washburn acquisition has not worked out for them. Meanwhile the pitching staff has come around lately, as it seems like quality start after quality start. It's the offense lately that's been holding them back.
Granted, I still think the Twins are done for the year, I just expected the Tigers to run away with this thing since the Twins just have not been able to step away from the .500 mark.

The words "stress fracture" and "back" are a creepy combination. I don't remember hearing them together before, but it gives me the willies.

Re: Morneau done for the season
This news might explain why he has struggled to the finish line the last 3 seasons.....plus an article in today's Star-tribune states JM takes many swings as part of his off season program also.

Poor guy...this may make Mauer's decision a little easier at the end of the season.

at the all-star break i thought he could easily be on his way to another mvp in one of the least covered markets by the media in baseball

I was going to say, Morneau always quits the season early, what's different about this year? -
