Re: Favre at the halfway point
^^^ Don't forget the 49ers game. No way that win that with TJack
I love hearing about all these great weapons Favre has. I agree BUT before the year before Sidney Rice was a very average WR at best. Stud this year. Shiancoe was a servicable TE. TD machine this year. Harvin was thought of as a great KR and he is, but people didn't see him being this good at WR
It all comes back to Favre
Re: Favre at the halfway point
The Vikings won't get into the Super Bowl as long as Brad Childress is the coach. He makes too many bone headed decisions.
And getting Winfield back won't help their lack of a pass defense. They get sliced and diced with or without him in there. Brees will shred the defense.
Re: Favre at the halfway point
And admittedly, Favre is playing some of his best football ever...as far as not making mistakes. When was the last time he was this far into the season with only 3 picks? Credit to him for being smarter in his "old age" as well as allowing the playmakers to do the work for him.
And there have been times when the game was on the line and folks are worried that "oh boy, this is when he gives the game away" - but he hasn't. The mistakes made in the game they lost can't even be attributed to him.

but he looks like a veteran wide receiver. I am completely amazed by two things that I didn't expect at all: 1) his physicality. he looks for contact and runs people over. 2) his route running. this may be a little bit of hyperbole, but it seems to me that he runs routes like a all-pro WR.
A while back I read an article about how Harvin worked on his route running with Antonio Freeman during the off season. It looks like the work paid off!

Ball control is how the Vikes can beat the Saints. Brees will have a hard time completing throws when he's laying on his back. I think the Vikes will get pressure on him enough to help neutralize him some.
The matchup that scares me with the Saints is Payton v. Childress.

Bress has been pressured some this year, albeit not a ton, but enough - and handled it quite well. Eventually this guy deserves a ring, period.
Where do the Vikes rank in sacks, QB hits and QB hurries this year? I have not looked.

It should. Payton is a great coach and I'll always be disappointed Dallas didn't find a way to retain him.
Re: Favre at the halfway point
I think the first 9 games should be enough to silence the Favre haters that were evident on this forum prior to the start of the season. I see some of them on this thread now. I also see some of them that before the season started proclaimed they could evaluate the situation with their head, while the rest of us were too caught up with our emotions. Hummm…yeah….whatever. I hope they are still man/men enough to continue their support if the team hits a 2 or 3 game skid. Instead, my guess is they'll be jumping up and down saying, "I told you so!". Sorry…doesn't work that way. If you think it was a bad move, let's hear it now so you still have some shred of credibility left when (or if) we hit some adversity here in the next 7 games (or playoffs).
Favre simply knows how to win. The same reasons we cursed his name when he played against us and broke our hearts is the same reasons why the Vikes are coming up with some incredible plays during this first half +1 game of the season. He wills the team to win. He finds the opportunities lesser men are blind to or are too afraid to make happen.
I would guess with TJ or Sage the Vikes would probably be 6-3 at absolute best, more likely 5-4 at this point. You can't replace the experience Favre (or any QB with his experience brings ) topped off with the special intangibles he brings on this field. Not sure how to describe the intangibles, but I saw it with Tarkington, Tommy Kramer (before he hit the bottle too hard) , and…..ahhhh…well…I'm not sure any Vikes' QB since has had it. We thought Cunningham had it in 1998, until push came to shove and in the 1998 NFC Championship game you suddenly saw nervous happy feet and deer in the headlights as it became crunch time amongst adversity against Atlanta. Can anyone honestly say they could ever envision Favre losing it (like Cunningham did) during that same type of scenario? Maybe physically due to injury, but no way mentally (which is the tougher thing to find in the NFL) . Heck…we've already seen major lapses this season on D-Fence and with fumbles on the offense which would cause most teams to fold without the right type of leadership. . These types of thing rattle lesser QBs. To the contrary, I think the adversity motivates Favre (or p*sses him off) to the point he makes the things happen that gives the team a very real chance to win.
OK…time to get off my "told you so" soapbox. .
Re: Favre at the halfway point
The big difference for the Vikes-- no one in the NFC is bigger than Farve in pressure packed games. Breezy is good, but Farve has been there.
Re: Favre at the halfway point
I think the impact he's had on the team has to weight equally as much as his personal stats. He spreads the D so AP gets more of a chance and he has managed the game amazingly well.
The Colts are my favorite team and Manning my favorite QB - but Favre would get my runner up vote for MVP.
Re: Favre at the halfway point
Just heard....He is retiring till Sunday

I do think that they need to keep pounding the ball with Peterson/Taylor, regardless of the other team's attempts to take that away. I've seen a tendency for the OC to go away from the run game and put the game on Favre's shoulders too much in the second half, especially in the Pittsburgh game.
YES!! This is ******* me off! I have AP on my fantasy team and the playing calling is killing him this year compared to last year!!! Give AP the damn ball!!!!!!!
