Jon Gruden=John Madden (as an announcer)
Gruden has his own style....but to a certain extent he reminds me of a younger Madden in the booth. Likes to yuk it up on potentially stupid topics, but makes it fun, and of course as we all know he's serious about his football at the same time.
That piece towards the end of the MNF game tonite about the new Saints mouthpieces was classic!!!! LMAO

I agree...I hope he stays as an announcer instead of going back to coaching.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers. -

Yeah to boot, I think his partners in the booth work very well with him. You can tell they enjoy what they do.

Re: Jon Gruden=John Madden (as an announcer)
He's easier to listen to than Madden, though - and most of the time doesn't say unintelligible crap either.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -
Re: Jon Gruden=John Madden (as an announcer)
I don't care if he does want to have a threesome with Sean Payton and Drew Brees, I think he adds exactly what was needed. I wouldn't say he is Madden. I like how he and Jaws can just naturally banter throughout the game. It gives a little entertainment value. Tony could do that too but he really lacked a certain perspective on the game. With Jaws and Gruden you get the player coach perspectives which I like to listen to.

Or so I have read. -
Re: Jon Gruden=John Madden (as an announcer)
I agree, I think it's a nice trio. I don't get wrapped up too much into who is calling the game, etc. But it's certainly a better trio than in some of the recent years with Dennis Miller, Tony, etc.

Re: Jon Gruden=John Madden (as an announcer)
Personally, I don't really like him. While his knowledge is top notch, I feel he's trying to hard to create some sort of on air persona. Maybe he will tone it down after a while, but as it is now, I find it difficult to listen to him.

Regardless if he returns to the coaching scene in the next year or two, I just hope when he's thru coaching he's back on Monday Night Football. IMO, Monday Night Football really needed this.

Gruden has been surprisingly great. He is a natural.

It's crazy though, I've read about these mouth guards before. This stuff has legs...err, teeth - to it. Crazy that something like that has an impact.
