Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Wow.
Does Hardy fit in the 2-hole? Otherwise who the hell do they put there now?
I was a big Gomez fan because of his D, but I'm excited about the possible power Hardy can provide from the SS. (Oh Jason Bartlett...how I miss thee)
Edit: Also, we have now moved to Santana for Hardy, ha!

Could Cabrera be had for the $7 mill they will pay Hardy? If so it's a big mistake...

Is Hardy really going to get $7mil in arbitration when he was paid $4.65mil last season and had a horrible year?
And it would be worth it anyway, simply because Hardy is 27 and Cabrera is 35.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Also, Cabrera only managed a .009 higher OBP than Hardy (.313 to .302) despite Hardy's .229 average.
Combined with Cabrera's shrinking range and the assumed upgrade in power with Hardy I'm not seeing the "big mistake" part. And he's 27, and he's under team control for two more years...
Guy doesn't walk, doesn't hit for any kind of power, doesn't steal bags (anymore)...the Cabrera love has been way over-rated...he had a nice run for about half of his time in Minnesota, but at 35 he's well on his way down.

Good move by the Twins.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Couldn't they re-sign Cabrera and push Hardy to third? I really like what Cabrera brought to the table this year. Would like to see him stay in the two spot on next year's team. Hardy would seem like more of a 6 or 7 spot guy.

I'm not sure what to make of this deal either. -
Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I was really hoping to get a starting pitcher for Hardy...but a young center fielder is nice.
I bet Mat Gamel is next on the trade block for the brewers...Hopefully he will bring me a new pitcher.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Sounds like Smith told Cabrera tat Hardy will be the teams SS. He also said the Young will be offered a contract. Cuddyer's option decison 10.5 million is due monday I think. Now the twins need a 3rd and a 2nd. Remember thanks to the Brewers they have Hardy under control for 2 years. Gomez is due arbitration as a super 2 player. I wonder how much money the twins spend this offseason and how free agents look at the Twins because of the Mauer cloud hanging over the team.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I'm not sure about this. The Twins had to do something to not go through the outfield crowding they had last year but kind of hate to see Gomez go. Will miss his speed.......just wish he had learned some discipline at the plate.
I liked Cabrera at short, mainly because he was pretty consistent, and he was a veteran....was a good influence on someone like Casilla I think. Hardy is a solid player. I'm always concerned with a player moving from the National to the American League though. Sometimes it is tough for them to improve or maintain their offensive numbers.
Hardy knows Mauer pretty well. Even roomed with him before in some competitions. We may never know if that had anything to do with this move.
Hope it works out.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Sad that Cabrerra won't be back. He's a big reason they made their run in the 2nd half.
