Twins trade Gomez for Hardy

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I don't know. I hope Hardy's yearlong hitting slump was just an anomaly instead of signs of things to come. And unless Punto starts to step it up at the plate, another 2B is going to quickly become a priority.

Hardy just had a bad year. He will be back.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Good move, the twins have PLENTY of outfielders to play out there and no one to play on the infield but Morneau and Cabrera (if they resign him...)

So long as they have a legitimate threat at 3B (Crede resigns on the cheap?) hiding Punto at 2B will be much easier. 1 hole in the infield is much more managable than three (Buscher, Punto, Tolbert anyone).
Assuming, of course, Hardy rebounds as you said.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Looks like a good pickup at first glance. Good for both sides.
Hopefully both of them were just in a funk this year and can get back to 2008 form.

We drafted him as a 2B and converted him to Catcher. He'd be a big improvement at the plate over anybody else we could plug in there.

Crede cannot stay healthy.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
Hardy >>> Gomez
Pretty good trade for the Twins. Hardy is one of the best defensive SS in the game.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
True, but his power numbers are fine when he is.
What would be wrong with signing Crede for a mil or two, and if he only plays 90 games with 15 HR again...thats about 13 homers more than they would get from Harris or Tolbert or Punto playing those extra 90 games.
Every game he played would be an upgrade over what they have

Morales could be a great catcher if he can pick it up behind the plate.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I think it is a good trade but my biggest question is what happens with OC. OC's bat was a big part of the playoff push and I'd be sad to see him not get resigned. Could Hardy play 2nd and Cabreara resign for ss? I have to think that would be a major infield upgrade in the eyes of Mauer and that should be the only goal at this point right?

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I hope they resign Cabrera.
Twins will miss some of the things that Gomez brought to the team, but ultimately, he just wasn't hitting often enough.
Hopefully Hardy doesn't suck like he did this past year.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
First thought was I didn't like giving up one of the fastest players in the game. But his OBP stinks. Gomez had a career day in Milwaukee this year so they were probably impressed. The Brewers have been trying to trade Hardy for quite awhile, let's just hope he like different scenery.

Re: Twins trade Gomez for Hardy
I'm on the fence - it sounds like we won't resign cabrera and we lose speed and a young, raw talent with Gomez, BUT we are playing in a new outdoor park and need the power to put runs on the board. The 2010 Twins are going to be a totally different team without that homefield advantage that was the HHH Metrodome. The news I'm waiting for is the restructuring of Mauer's contract for the next 10 years.
