Kind of unfortunate I suppose, but he still probably is, regardless of the off the course stuff.

Wrong Pick / Wrong Timing. Roger Federer is a bigger stud, with perhaps as worthy accomplishments than Tiger, a dedicated athlete and loves his game (did you see his reaction after winning gold - in doubles - at the olympics).

Hard to argue with the pick. Who else has dominated their sport to a greater degree over this decade than Tiger Woods? No one that I can think of.
Clearly, Tiger is not the man many believed him to be and he is not a positive role model any longer but he is without question (IMO) the most dominant athlete in the world in his sport.
As I write this I do think of Michael Phelps as well being in this discussion. But again, a dominant athlete with some "issues" outside of his sport.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

It's hard to argue with Federer or Phelps, but it is hard to argue with Woods as well.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

I'll add Lance Armstrong to the debate as well. Originally Posted by Stumpy Unless the performance enhancing drug story is true.
But this could be said about him too.

Why not? He is totally deserving. If they named him husband and father of the decade, then you could take issue with it.

Re: AP editors vote Tiger Woods ‘athlete of the decade’
My argument against Phelps is his performance was basically for 1-year (the Olympic year). Ok maybe two years as he did well in the '04 olympics too.
Roger Federer / Woods / P Manning would get my vote for the Decade because of year-after-year consistent performance.

Hard to argue against Tiger...but had they chosen Federer I would thought that was fair as well!
