Re: LA announces which NFL teams they want to poach.
The location for the new stadium in L.A. is horrible. Nobody wants to drive 25 miles East of town to watch football (or anything else for that matter), or at least try to watch it through the thick layer of smog that collects out that way. If a team moves to this new stadium my guess is they will make the Raiders stay in L.A. look like an eternity.

Take Jacksonville. No one cares there. Please, take Jacksonville.

That would be a disaster with traffic...wait...LA traffic is already a disaster!

The vikes will leverage this to make Minnesotans fund a new dome.

The new stadium will be well East of the Rosebowl. Smog only gets worse as you head East. Plus, that far inland just has a bad reputation among the L.A. population. They would have to have a really good team to get people to drive that far out. Then again, maybe they can build a fanbase from the Inland Empire population?
I guess my doubts are based on the fact that they couldn't get people to watch a team in the readily accessible Colliseum. How are they expecting to draw them in this undesireable and hard to get to location?

I figured Al Davis was just being a jerk and looking for ways to make as much money as possible. Was attendance an issue with the Raiders?

Was attendance an issue with the Raiders? As a pretty reliable rule, people in L.A. wont go to a sporting event unless the team is in contention for a championship. Look at the Lakers attendance backin in their bad years as an example. I lived in L.A. during the Raider years and my recollection is that they didn't draw. Of course, that is just my recollection.
If I lived in L.A. I wouldn't drive to the proposed location to watch a football game. It just isn't worth the hassle and time to fight traffic that far to a pretty undesireable location for a couple hours of football. I'd rather drive two hours to San Diego to watch the Chargers. Depending on traffic, it could be break-even on time anyway (it took me 45mins to an hour to travel 13 miles for work in L.A., two hours to make it 25miles isn't unrealistic). That being said, they wont spend a billion dollars on a new stadium if they can't make it work financially. I just wonder how much of the model is dependent on the retail and office space vs. housing a successful football team?

Umm, what about the Clippers? They suck but people still go to their games.

There have been many years where the old Sports Arena/Staples Center has been half full or less for the Clippers. The Kings outdraw the Clippers most years.

jags seem like the most likely to move. They've had so many blackouts and it doesn't look like anything will change it
