This. Went to a Vikes/Lions game there (don't ask) and their fans were ruthless, and the Vikes won.

So if Dallas wins do we take down the goal posts.

Fox must have had the wrong graphic up this afternoon, theirs said 12 Eastern. Oh well, I'm just a disinterested bystander now.

    Alright, time to start something.

What is with midwesterners who are Cowboy fans? I mean, it is not like there aren't plenty of geographically appropriate NFL teams to choose from. Isn't it kind of like how some like to rag on Hawk fan who has never set foot on U of I campus but for some reason still feels they are superior to us Cyclone fans who actually attended the University we cheer for?

I don't know, maybe there are a lot of Texas imports up here?

    Don't you know? They're "America's Team".

I couldn't stand the Cowboys when I was young because they were good. But ever since Tom Landry left, I can't stand them because of the collective arrogance of the organization.

(If your original statement didn't start anything, I'm sure this post will.)

For me, when I was young and impressionable, I had family in Dallas that sent me Dallas stuff (this was back in the Landry days) so I figured I had this Cowboys stuff so I would be a Cowboys fan. And living in NE Iowa most of my life all I ever heard about was the Vikes/Packers/Bears/Hawks so I now dislike all of them. Never question the logic of a young child.

I can give you two reasons.

The first is what had the most bearing on me. A large chunk of one side of my family grew up in San Antonio and eventually became Iowa transplants. So liking the Cowboys was ingrained in my head pretty early.

The second is back when the NFL started to really boom on TV (mid-90s) it was prior to Sunday Ticket and the Sunday night game being relevant (Sunday night games were split between ESPN and TNT). Usually the most popular team from the previous year was the one featured. During this time it came down to the Cowboys and 49ers. You could pretty much guarantee that if Fox had a doubleheader then the Cowboys got the early game and the 49ers got the late.

Easy to start cheering for a team you see all the time on TV.

Oh, and I'll be there. Section 106.

Dad is a Vikings fan and obviously I am a Cowboys fan.

That said, while I will be rooting hard for the Cowboys I will probably not quibble with any team that comes out of the NFC. I like/tolerate them all pretty well.

My story of cowboys loyalty is much funnier and simplistic....it was REVENGE!!!!

It was 1976, i was a lil fella, and i decided this beautiful fall day that i wanted to go fishing. It was Oct 24th and i approached my dad and asked if we could go fishin.. he gave me a puzzled look and said not on sunday, he was going to watch his beloved Bears.....So on that fateful day, when a young man was actually told NO, i of course got ****** and stormed off.... Well later when i realized my stormin off had changed nothing decided to go see how the game was going....Low and behold, the bears were losing and my dad was ******....who were the Bears playing that day.....The Dallas Cowboys!!!!!

The cowboys controlled the day that day, winning 31-21.....My dad told me that story years later, and said it was salt in the wound for me to sit there cheering on the cowboys.....

Thats how a midwestern boy becomes a cowboys fan......

By the way, the analogy of pro sports to college sports is not the same.....I have been to the Old Dallas Cowboys Stadium but i've never been to Dallas Cowboys University, and will venture down to the new stadium after a year or two has gone by to enjoy the experience.....

Why are some of my friends Raider fans, some are Dolphin fans, some Falcons fans....there are a lot of stories that transcend the simplistic standards of our college allegiances.....as long as you stay loyal in the good times and the bad, it should be all good!!!!

51.5 hours til kickoff - cant wait, first playoff game in any sport....

This is going to be an instant classic....

Hope boyz defense come to play, they will need their A game to beat the vikes....and if Arizona wins, the Boyz would get the home playoff game for the NFC Championship!!!!

My first game in the dome since the 2007 game between the Vikings and Chargers where Peterson set the single game rushing record and Cromartie had the longest play in NFL history.

Looking forward to finding a way to survive with all my Cowboys gear on.
