Like it or not, Favre is the face of the NFL for the last decade and a half.

Like it or not, Favre is the face of the NFL for the last decade and a half. Definitely the face of the last ten 15 years. His start streak is untouchable. Will his time with the Vikings/Jets be shown as part of his legacy or will they be ignored like Emmit Smiths time with the cardinals, Jerry Rice with the Seahawks, and Tony Dorsett with the Broncos. Sunday will definitely play a part in that role. I can't wait.
How did you become a Lakers/Vikings/Red Sox fan? TV exposure when you were a kid?

I don't know, I just always have been. The Cowboys just always give me that crummy feeling when I see them.

Re: The Ballad of Brett Favre
I've been a Cowboys fan since the mid 80's, sometime around 6 years old. I think it was cause my uncle was a Cowboys fan and he turned me into one. If you think all Cowboy fans in Iowa are bandwagon riders, I guess the same could be said of any professional sports team fans here since we don't have a pro team.

Re: The Ballad of Brett Favre
Have been a fan of Dallas since I can remember. It probably stems from my father, who was a Dallas Texan fan. The Texans became the Chiefs in 1963, so my dad chose to stay with a Dallas team, named the Cowboys. Ironically the Texans
moved the same year I was born, so I guess I can say I have been a fan since birth, 46 years.
I remember Drew Pearson catching the ball from Roger Staubach at Metropolitan Stadium in the playoffs, commonly referred as The Hail Mary.

How did you become a Lakers/Vikings/Red Sox fan? TV exposure when you were a kid? Vikes due to TV coverage. Red Sox because my dad was a big Ted Williams fan, and my best friend growing up had family from the Boston area. Lakers because my great Aunt, who was like a 3rd Grandma to me, lived in LA area growing up. Would routinely visit her at least once a year during spring or summer. Needless to say the Lakers were a big deal during the 80s when we would visit. Stuck with the Lakers through the bad 90s, the Red Sox even with the annual late season and playoff collapses, and Vikes are 0-4 in the big one.
I am a huge Larry Bird fan though, even though I cannot really stand the Celtics. Go figure. Worthy adversary I guess.

Any more questions?

No...most of us grabbed a midwest team. If you look at any of the DM Register polls they''ve done on this, most Iowans are Bears, Packers, Vikes, or Chiefs fans.
Then there is the few that jumped on winning bandwagons. (Steelers, Cowboys, 49er's). IMO, not very impressive way to pick your team.

If you were a kid who grew up in the 1980's it made sense to pick the 49ers. Except for '85, the Bears sucked (and have sucked since then). I don't think it's odd at all that there are large pockets of Steeler and Cowboys fan in every average-sized city in the country. Des Moines and Iowa as a whole are no different, even if the majority of us have picked teams close to here.

Of course it is not odd. It is easy scampy to jump on board with a winning team rather than support a local/regional one. That said, the majority of people tend to pick and support their "local" team thus there is understandable resentment for those that just went ahead and lopped onto the popular choice of the day (regardless of location).

Re: The Ballad of Brett Favre
My aunt & uncle moved from Iowa to Irving, TX in 1966 - we got Cowboys stuff for Christmas - then they started beating the Viqueens in the playoffs EVERY year - that just cemented it!
Been a die-hard Cowboys fan since 1969.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - no matter how wrong they may be. -

Been a die-hard Cowboys fan since 1969. Family connection there. That seems legit IMO.

Much better song than the OP's one. And way more fitting. Why? Did they rebuild the Met for Sunday? "The Packer's Prayer"
Our Favre
Who art in Lambeau
Hallowed be thine arm
The bowl will come
It will be won
In New Orleans as it was in Lambeau
Give us this Sunday our weekly win
And give us many touchdown passes
But do not let others pass against us.
Lead us not into frustration
But deliver us to Bourbon Street
For thine is the MVP, the best of the NFC
and the glory of the cheeseheads,
now and forever.
GO GET 'EM!
