Re: The Ballad of Brett Favre
I hope the Vikings can pull it out...as an unbiased fan, there's three players I love to watch...Brady, Peyton Manning, and Favre. I hope he plays for another five years...He is the most fun quarterback I've ever watched play. I hope he doesn't care about his legacy. How hard would it be to retire when you still love to do something. It's the same as Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and Michael Jordan. Does anyone really think less of them as an athlete?

None of them played for their former teams most hated rival, that is the difference. He may not care about his legacy, but it is ruined in Green Bay.

The Cowboys aren't the "Yankees" of football, they'd actually have to be good to make that comparison. The Vikes and Cowboys are chokers and will find a way not to make it to the superbowl. Arizona's going for the NFC, I can feel it.

No bandwagon fan here. I am sure there are lots of CF'ers that grew up in many different parts of the country. Way to lump most into your definition of who a fan should like.

How long do you have to be a fan of team before you are no longer considered a bandwagon fan? I've liked the Cowboys since I was 7. Not sure why I started liking them. Maybe because my older brother liked the Vikings and I wanted to be different than him. Maybe because they were winning at the time. Maybe because they were on Thanksgiving each year. For crying out loud, I was 7 years old. The reason doesn't really matter.
I think if I've been a Cowboys fan for 30 years, have stuck through all the down years in the late 80s, late 90s, and early 00s, and have never wavered in my support, I deserve to be called a true fan, not a bandwagon fan.
Some people need to step down off of their pedestal of thinking they are a true fan of their team because they root for someone more local and they chose to root for them because they are local, whereas others who root for non-local teams are simply bandwagon fans.
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers -

Way to lump most into your definition of who a fan should like. I wasn't lumping everyone and readily acknowledged acceptations. Regardless, I don't see any problem with making observations. Are you going to argue that picking a winning team had nothing to do with it? You were born in TX and lived there 8 years. Seems reasonable you'd be a Cowboys fan. Others had family connects to the team. There are reasons that people aren't necessarily fans of their regional team(s). Again…I've acknowledged this. That said, why don't we run into this same phenomena with Lion's fans…or Bengal's fan's? Hummmmm... You keep hearing this "I don't know why I became a Cowboy's fan….." noise. How come you never hear a statement like that from a Lion's fan? I mean seriously….let's be honest here. Many picked them because they were the flashy, winning team of the day. Just because it may have been a long time and they never jumped off the wagon, it seems pretty obvious what the genesis of picking them as "your team" had everything to do with their current success at the time. Is this the worse thing in the world? Does it somehow make you less legit as a fan? NO! But what it does cause questioning (maybe resentment for lack of a better term?) by those that have always chosen to support teams because the represented the part of the country they lived(not because they were winning Super Bowls or had the most national exposure. Again…isn't this similar to what makes a particular arrogant segment of the Hawkeye fan base so annoying? I guess I can't expect you to like the fact that some will always question why you're a Cowboy's (or maybe Steeler's) fan, but at the end of the day…people are going to do it.

Re: The Ballad of Brett Favre
Hey, having the Cowboys on TV nearly every Sunday for a decade is bound to attract the younger fans who have not picked a favorite team yet. The fact that they were winning only accelerates the process.
Whether they are 'bandwagon fans' is determined when the team loses (i.e. '89 season) - if they stick, no bandwagon.
