Detroit Red Wings may leave Joe Louis arena after next year?
Detroit News - Although Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland told reporters Sunday he fully expects the team to play at the arena next season, the Ilitch family has been seeking other options.
One of those options is The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Wings and Palace Sports and Entertainment have been working on a lease agreement for more than a year.
Mike and Marian Ilitch toured The Palace in December 2008. According to sources, Palace officials submitted a five-year lease offer to the Ilitches.
Joe Louis Arena will need more than $10 million in structural repairs before next season.
Another option for the Red Wings could be Ford Field, home of the Lions, but sources say the Ilitches haven't yet pursued that possibility.
Sources told The News that Mike Ilitch did have at least a passing interest in The Palace

He's been trying to get support to build a new stadium for a few years now. He owns a ton of property surrounding Comerica Park and the Fox Theatre (which he owns as well) and wants to build it there.
Merely a ploy to get the City of Detroit behind the project. However, the Joe is turning into a dump.
