Okland signs Sheets to 1 year deal
SI.com's Jon Heyman says (via Twitter) that Sheets will get $10MM in 2010 plus performance bonuses. Pretty sweet deal for a guy that missed all of last season.
10 million for a player that didn't play last year WOW

Lot of money but I bet the A's are banking that Sheets gets off to a hot start and they can deal him to a contender for some prospects. Sort of like they did with Matt Holliday last year essentially.

Thats way to much money for a guy who is essentially an unknown at this point in his career...I read that he wanted 8 mil and you give him 10!? Not exactly moneyball there.

I thought that was a very good signing...until I saw that dollar amount! Wow...that is a huge gamble because if he isn't healthy they will have wasted a ton of money from an already small budget!

Very, very suprising. I thought Sheets would get a low base contract with high dollar incentives.
Especially surprised it was the A's. They just bought themselves a big lottery ticket.

Sheets has put up decent numbers in the first half of the season over his career, but has been hurt a lot during the 2nd half of the season. Billy Beane knows that, and he knows that a contending team will be willing to pay 4 or 5 million to take Sheets off of his books around the trade deadline.
Sheets 2nd half injury woes won't be Billy Beanes problem; they'll be Jim Hendry's. If the Cubs are in contention (and they should be), they'll pull the trigger on renting Sheets for 2 months.
