Not by a long shot, but I never realized how little football actually happens during a broadcast. Here's the entire 3+ hour Super Bowl condensed into 14 minutes of actual, live football.

Unfortunately the glut of commercials and the desire to keep a broadcast to a 3 hour time span has vastly reduced the number of plays. I started watching the NFL many many years ago. A team could go on a 20 play 90 yard drive without a commercial unless either team called a time out.
Now you punt and get 3 commercials. They run 2 plays and they break for commercial. Then they come back and the officals blow a phantom whistle or decide to have a discussion about nothing so they can go to another commercial. It really has slowed the action down to a snail's pace. It has to be tough for the players to get and keep any sort of rhythm also.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.
a great part of football is the anticipation of the next play or the big stop on 4th down.. the time between plays is magically for the fan as well... so i think there are more than 14 minutes of football played.. they may just be actually running the plays for 14 minutes, but the game is also mental, and that takes some time. this isnt soccer.
Replays are much more exciting in FB than baseball, due to the fact that there's so much going on that you can't catch it all live. That's why it doesn't matter that the actual plays are that short.

Maybe I am just not quick today but I would say that slows the game but the same number of plays are run aren't they? Unless you are saying we miss plays during commercial breaks which I know happens, but not that often.

It would be like cutting basketball games down only to the point where there's an assist and shot. Everything leading up to the actual snapping of the ball is part of the play. It equates to the point guard setting up the offense etc.

I should have explained it better, they have added all the commercials but changed the rules which stop the clock to try to keep it within the 3 hour format. The clock does not stop when you go out of bounds except in the last 5 minutes of the game. So while the time frame is still about 3 hours, you have fewer plays because the clock continues running when under the older rules, it would be stopped.
