Minny should have built one stadium for both the Vikings and Gophers. I know the Gophers wanted an on campus venue. However beggars can't be choosers. Also, their campus is downtown and farily close to the Metrodome site. You'd think they would be able to find a solution that worked for both teams (especially if the alternative was not getting a new stadium).
You know what really ticks me off?
The Gophers will have this insane new stadium right in the heart of a major city with 15+ Million more in TV money alone and they still suck.
I went to a seminar a few weeks back in which the Viking's "ambassador" to the State of Minnesota discussed the situation and some economics of the stadium issue in Minnesota.
He basically said the the state of MN receives nearly $25 million in taxes from the Vikings being in town. The debt service on a new stadium would be between $29 & $40 million per year, depending on design features and most notably an operable roof.
The Vikings don't care about a roof, but defer to whether the State wants to have a stadium with a roof that could be used for other events year round (Final Fours, Soccer, Hockey, Monster Truck, conventions, etc)
Anyway, for the Vikings needs of a a football stadium, it would only cost the state about $5 Million/year (difference between tax revenue and stadium debt service). The risk of letting the Vikings leave, would be $25 Million in lost Tax revenue.
I can see the following teams moving.
I was listening to a thing of Tony Bruno a couple nights ago and this main guy that is in charge of this project said they want the stadium to be for 2 teams and host major college football bowls.
