Overtime rules change?
Sounds like they will consider modifying the current sudden death system and make it the first team to 6 points wins. Peter King (SI_PeterKing) on Twitter Rich Eisen (richeisen) on Twitter
Thoughts?
I like it better than the current system, but I'd still rather see the AFL rules: Overtime periods are 15 minutes during the regular season and the playoffs. Each team gets one possession to score. If, after each team has had one possession and one team is ahead, that team wins. If the teams are tied after each has had a possession, the next team to score wins. Don't confuse hope for a plan. -
Re: Overtime rules change?
Why do these people have to be so dumb? Each team should get a chance. Simple. How hard is that NFL?

Re: Overtime rules change?
interesting. that would force teams to go for TD's rather that kicking early FGs.

I like the 6 point idea. You can't win or get beat by a coin flip and a good kicker.

Re: Overtime rules change?
it would be better than current system but they have to allow both teams to get the ball. Its not hard NFL!

Re: Overtime rules change?
I like the idea of needing 6 points, I don't think each team needs to get the ball. If you want the ball, play some defense. Teams winning the toss and scoring on their first possession doesn't happen terribly often as it is.

Re: Overtime rules change?
Its an improvement, but i think each team should get a shot with the ball.

If your going to do it for the playoffs do it for the regular season as well

Re: Overtime rules change?
I am standing firm with the opinion that it should be a 30 on 30 Battle Royale in the middle of the field with the last team with a player standing in the ring declared the victor. Problem solved. You are welcome, NFL.

Re: Overtime rules change?
it's an improvement, but honestly I still think college football has it right. Give both teams the ball and opportunity to score. It's just a bad decision to have the game be decided by a coin flip and a good leg like it currently is.

What if you have two dominant offenses and two terrible defenses. Score is tied 63-63 going into overtime, with neither team getting a stop all game. Why does team A that gets the ball first deserve to win, when neither team has gotten a stop all game?
