AFL: Chicago Rush @ Barnstormers
Who's in for tailgating "spring training" for the Barnstormers' season opener? We're working out the menu details but have the mini-grill and coolers ready.
If you're headed to the game make sure to wear plenty of ISU gear to give some balance to the school colors. If you're not going, you can catch the game in HD on the NFL Network. It's the season opener for the AFL Game of the Week.
Kick-off is at 7:05 PM at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, April 2.
Looks like Brent Curvey and Todd Blythe both made the cut and will be representing Iowa State well this season. Tyson Smith appears headed to the CFL, but the Barnstormers are still claiming him if he returns to the AFL.

Can't make it (******* Easter with my gf's parents), but I'll be watching on NFL Network!

The f'ing wasn't directed at Easter, it was directed at leaving on Friday. There could easily be no conflict between the game and Easter.

I'm looking forward to Friday's opener! I wonder if Chicago Rush co-owner Mike Ditka will be in the house?

Mediacom will carry the home, non-NFL Network games only. There will be some road games that will not be on TV but you can always watch on: Arena Football League -
Re: AFL: Chicago Rush @ Barnstormers
Looking forward to a little tailgating and kick-off tonight. Curious to see how Todd Blythe plays.
BTW...there's 4 or 5 Barnstormer related media stories currently linked to on DesMoinesReport.com. (see top of third column) Des Moines Report
Go 'Stormers!!

Re: AFL: Chicago Rush @ Barnstormers
Heading to my first game since the original Barnstormers were in DM and I'm really looking forward to it. I had some friends that went to a bunch of games last year and loved it.
Looking forward to seeing Blythe and Curvey play as well.

Looking forward to seeing Blythe and Curvey play as well. Have fun! Barnstormers games are a blast, and a great way to get back into tailgating form.
I won't be there (as hashed out earlier) but I'll be rocking my Stormers shirt all day. At least I'll be in front of a TV w/NFL Network tonight.

What's the deal w/ tailgating at barnstormers. What lots are open, do lots of people show up, are the rules the same as Cyclone FB games, what are the hours?

The lots are usually open a few hours before kick off, if not just open all day, unless there is something going on at Vets. The tailgating is in the lots directly north of Vets, and NW of WFA.
As far as rules, it seems to me anything goes. We've grilled, drank bottled beer, etc. There won't be a ton of people there until probably 5 today, but it will be a good time.

Re: AFL: Chicago Rush @ Barnstormers
I tailgated for one game last year in the pay lot just north of Vets. We got there about 3 hours before kickoff and had our pick of spots, there were only a few clusters of tailgaters on that beautiful summer Saturday, hopefully it picks up a little this year. We grilled, drank beer, played bags, all the usual.
I thought it was funny that the lot really started filling up within a half hour of kickoff... with people that were paying to park there when there is plenty of free parking within several blocks. Not that it was expensive, I don't remember exactly how much it was to get in the lot, but it wasn't much.
Oh, and I won't make it tonight either, I'm going to my parents' house for the weekend (my choice). But I plan to make it to quite a few games this summer and hope to tailgate as much as I can!
