I might have had a little bit more sympathy for Cubs fans for the 2003 season if they hadn't crucified Bartman in the process for doing something that 20 other fans around him were attempting to do and the thousands of fans in the vicinity were wishing that they were in his place - until the end result became clear. And the fact that the entire organization still holds him responsible by cordoning off that seat speaks volumes...

Lower maybe, but much lower? I think what contributes the most to a large number of Cubs fans in Iowa is a little farm team called the Iowa Cubs. Casual baseball fans who go to a couple of games at Sec Taylor get a kick out of seeing the same players make it up to the big leagues. They get suckered into becoming Cubs fans this way.

Here is one Cubs fan that agrees with you. The whole Bartman deal was a huge injustice. I see that video or stills of his catch of that ball and I see the same thing you did; a whole section of people trying to do the same thing he did.

It was unfortunate for the team, but that is baseball. LET IT GO! But most of all, let him go back to anonymity. That Yankee fan kid would have been in something of the same boat if his fan interference ball would have been called correctly instead of being ruled a homerun. Instead, he is considered a hero.

Go Cards! Time to extend our world titles to 11!

For the record, I am a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. They were on TBS all of the time while growing up so I watched them a lot. The Royals are my AL team. They're terrible but local and dad took me there a lot.

I posted all of the local teams and also some national franchises who seem to have large followings. Feel free to leave a response below if you fill out other, as I'm sure quite a few of you will do.

If you live in Eastern Iowa between WGN and CSN you will never miss a Cubs game. I am sure that is a huge factor in why there are so many Cubs fans.

Twins fan since 1987 series and my parents took me to see Twins Red Sox in '91 such great memories!

Side note: I don't really hate the Cubs, just how the fans come out of the woodwork in May-June when they are on top of the division by 5 games. Then they are no where to be found once August-September rolls around and the Cardinals are dominating the division. So sad.

Born on the north side of Chicago, lived in Eastern Iowa most of elementary school and all my friends watched in the summer was WGN. Been to 7 games at Wrigley.
