Lilly is out until the 3rd week of April. And I'm not denying the Braves have a great staff because they do. They are my pick to win the NL East this year.

Honest critique of the Cubs staff. Zambrano, Dempster, Lilly, Silva & Wells aren't going to set the league of fire and blow anyone away, but it's a staff that allows the team to be competitive and stay in games.
If this staff can get run support and the bullpen can even show any sign of reliability, the Cubs will be in the thick of the wild card chase.

I can get pissy all I want. And you're right, I am a sore loser and am already getting that sickening feeling two games into the season.

Nobody's counting on Silva. He had a good spring, so they're giving him a shot at the #5. If he fails, Marshall and Gorzelanny are both solid #5 options as well.

At least you're not counting on Jeff Suppan like me.
Personally I think that Suppan and Silva are in the same boat. They make a crap ton of money so they are going to get a spot in the rotation. Silva may have a leg up because he came over to the NL but he still is a waste of money.
Suppan is just a waste of money.

This pre-season was the highest I've been on the Braves since '03 and after the first two games I feel the same way. A lot of it has to do with JHey...

He is probably only going to see two starts, at most, before Lilly comes back, at which time Silva will be sent to Des Moines.

Don't think that they can do that. Silva has been in the league since 2002 and has a major league contract. He has a guaranteed contract and can probably refuse a minor league assignment.
Should be interesting to say the least.

He can refuse it if he'd like, but then he'll be designated for assignment. And no one will give him decent money for what he's done the last two years. His best bet is to make good on the time he has in Chicago and hope they move Gorzy to the pen (or Iowa) instead of him.

This is baseball...he will get every penny on his contract. Thats the whole reason that he got traded. If they designate him for assignment he still gets all of his money from the cubs. Even if he clears waivers, he would probably prefer to get cut and be able to go to another team than go back to the minors.

If anyone gets sent back down when Lilly comes back, it's going to be Samarzdija.

Can't we route him straight to Peoria?
