I wonder what # he'll take? He was 67 in the spring. 4,5,13,15 and 20 are available. Unless he takes Hoffpauir's 6 or Tracy's 9. My guess is he'll take 5.
I'm fine with this as long as he starts at least 5 days a week. He can't just sit on the bench and get a spot start like Colvin.
Sounds like Castro will be the man at short and Theriot will be the man at second with Fontenot backing him up.
I know Castro is great, but I'm not sure this move is going to fix the problems the Cubs are having offensively. Hope I wrong and he provides a constant spark. Maybe he can remind Ramirez how to hit the ball?
I wonder why now? Obviously Theriot will move to 2nd but why? Fontenot is hitting .296 and isn't a big defensive liability. It has to be just to shake things up.

After getting swept and only scoring 5 runs against the fearsome trio of Paul Maholm, Brian Burres and Charlie Morton a move of some consequence is in order. A Big Three that is not. This team is walking dead right now, think Island Sayid level of deadness. No one move is going to fix this offense. Lee and Ramirez have to hit for this offense to do anything. This move doesn't change that one bit.
Hopefully Castro plays well and provides a spark. You immediately upgrade two positions defensively on your infield by moving Theriot to second base, a more natural position for him. I know Fontenot has been hitting the ball better so far, but he's not better than a spot starter. I for one am excited to see the future right now.
Lou and Hendry are desperate.

If they are going to have Fontenot and Baker on the bench, it might be worthwhile to get another reliever for one of those two, especially when Z goes back to the rotation which I think is inevitable.
