Peyton Manning's new contact to be highest in the league
The Colts plan to stick by their man.
Franchise owner Jim Irsay says he expects to make quarterback Peyton Manning the highest-paid player in NFLhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif history, "perhaps in the five-year, $100 million neighborhood," according to the Indianapolis Star
If so atleast he deserves it he has earned that right

The man makes some funny commercials - but no one is worth that much to play a sport. Out society is really getting out of hand with some of these sports contracts.

makes sense to me. I don't think any other player means more to his team, than Manning does to the Colts. They would be an 8-8 team at the very best, without him.

Yeah, I agree. We should let the owners keep all of the money instead of the players :jimlad:

Was more concerned that that kind of money is in sports. It's mind numbing to think about it.
Re: Peyton Manning's new contact to be highest in the league
I have no problem with any team paying any one player whatever they want to... that's their right.
However, I do have a problem when said player, in this case Manning, later cries and whines about there not being enough help around him.
A-Rod did this in Texas. He got the largest contract in baseball, only to eventually complain that there weren't enough good players around him to make them competitive.
The last I checked, the NFL has a salary cap. If the Colts wish to spend a HUGE chunk on one guy, fine, but it won't leave much for anyone else. As long as Manning understands they may not be able to keep guys like Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark around if the Colts can't afford to pay them their fair market value.

Simple supply/demand. If you don't like it, don't go to games, watch it on TV or buy any merchandise.

I probably don't speak for everyone here, but I think I'd rather just not see well or go with glasses than pay that kind of money for a contact:wink:

I don't mind the huge contracts for players. I also don't mind the owner making a boatload of money. I mind it when billionaire owners aren't paying for stadiums and taxpayers are. It's not right for cities and states to lay off teachers and build 500 million dollar stadiums via a subsidized stadium tax.
Re: Peyton Manning's new contact to be highest in the league
Didn't Jamarcus Russell knock down roughly 40 mil in his rookie contract? If the biggest joke in the NFL can throw that money at a hack, it seems like one of the better teams should pay a little over double for one of the best Qbs ever.
