I say start the Algeria match like they finished this one. Altidore up top Demps and Donovan pushed forward. I liked that foramtion a lot it read as 4-4-2 but played like a 4-3-3 with Benny Left CM, Edu Central, Bradley Right CM with Demps and Donovan playing more as wingers or attacking mids. Roy Hodgson, current Fulham FC Manager and my favorite in all of Football, talks about it hear.

When you hear him talk about that formation just put these pieces in those places and it makes sense to me. We wouldnt have to play straight up 4-3-3 it could be more like 4-3-2-1 with Demps and Donovan a little more inside. I just think the more I see us play we need 3 CM's. I think we have the players to play this formation because Jozy, Demps, Donovan, Bradley and even Edu will attack the ball in the box when called upon.
If they play as aggressive and desperate as they did in the 2nd half, then I like this idea. Problem is we have to get hurt before we decide to play like this....we need 90 mins of that style.
Also, the biggest problem is on the defensive end. Gotta make them earn their goals rather than leaving them unmarked making easy shots. Not to take anything away from Slovenia, they finished those shots very well, but they were wide open and that can't happen.
I thought benny was solid today. Would like to see more of Holden (unless he is still short of fitness) and Spector.

I use the 4-3-3 in my PES09 video game and I'm undefeated
Gomez is a must start from now on he's got lots more confidence around the goal than Findley (I know he's suspended a game). I really hope Altidore plays all next game like the 2nd half (and the whole team for that matter), him and donovan are the main difference makers.
Does anyone know who's fault that first allowed goal was? I couldn't tell watching it live. It seemed too easy.
I vote we start the lineup that we finished the game with, run a 3-4-3. Algeria isn't much of a scoring threat, so an aggressive-minded set would work well. This is the equivalent of much of the Big 12 last year in football: High power offense beats a throttling defense.
Maybe not crap, but not what we have come to expect from Bocanegra. Didn't track Birsa on the opening goal, but that was his only fault.
I thought he had a lot of missteps besides the obvious one. I think he would even admit to playing pretty poorly. I agree with you, I've just always expected more than that from him. I'm hoping he is back in form for Algeria.

Yeah, definitely not a top performance from him. ESPN ranks his performance a 4 on a scale from 1 to 10, which is fitting. I don't really see a defensive problem with the USA against Algeria, they don't have the team speed that Slovenia showed in the first half when we really struggled. The one thing we need to do is just get a better level of communication while in the defensive third, which is only developed over playtime.
