exactly. he took mediocre teams to superbowls early in his career. they had absolutely NO running game until TD came along late in his career. i am a lifelong broncos fan and the only rb i can remember having any success prior to davis was gaston green and maybe sammy winder? sure they had the 3 amigos and karl mecklenberg, but i think the 3 amigos were DECENT because of Elway.

Elway, 5 superbowls-2 wins, in those early years it was impossible for a AFC team to win. He also was a very good scrambler.

I exagerated a bit...not terrible...probably a wild card team. The patriots however would have been a juggernaut. The pats offense was never impressive until they got Randy Moss. It was always a the defenses team.
