Interesting Stat
Who was the last releiver to lead his team in strikeouts this late in the season? Joel Hanrahan is right now for the Pirates, despite others throwing nearly 3 times as many innings.

Good for Joel. How did he feel about the article in SI a few weeks ago?

I'm sure he hasn't seen it... If you read some of his recent quotes, they're obviously frustrated.

Re: Interesting Stat
Obviously their starters are sinker ball pitchers or pitch only high heat. Sad. He is rated only #183 in relief pitchers. Sad. He has a 3.7 ERA. Sad. Pirates . Sad.

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Interesting Stat
That says more about Pittsburgh than anything.

Not sure what the rating is based on, but he is pretty much seen as a top 10 set up guy and thought to be better than many closers, including the Pirates own closer. ERA is hardly a reliable stat for releivers, but opponents are hitting only .196 against him, slugging .340, and he's only behind Marmol and Wagner in strikeouts per 9.

Re: Interesting Stat
Congrats to your brother because that is awesome, but I think that says more about the Pirates' pitching staff...
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

They really don't have any starters that are strikeout guys and only one (Maholm) hasn't spent time on DL. That's why I say it's INTERESTING and not AMAZING Follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/MarkHanrahan20 Check out my blog http://markhanrahan.com and tune into "Extra Innings" Thursdays at 6pm on 1460kxno -

Re: Interesting Stat
Your brother plunked me with a fastball in spring league baseball several years ago. It was my first high school at-bat as a freshman and was the third pitch I had ever seen at that level. By the time I got to first base, the pain in my arm was gone because it had gone completely numb.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -
