That is what I was wondering, if Cubs fans were more or less annoyed with D. Lee in this situation. You might not get allot but in these rent a player situations, you can usually get an A ball player with talent, that turns into something in a couple years.

The Angels aren't in a much better place than the Cubs. The Cubs are 9.5 back and the Angels are 7.5 back, they're a playoff long shot at this point. I disagree that Lee isn't a leader though. You don't need to be vocal to be a leader, you can lead by example and I think Lee has done that throughout his Cubs tenure. He also isn't scared to call out his teammates, he was the one who called Z out during his outburst in the dugout. He's earned his no trade clause and has the right to use it, it's not his duty to save the Cubs a little salary just because they're out of this year. I don't fault a guy for not wanting to move away from his family for two months to join a team that's currently way out of the play off race.

I'm neutral. Great first baseman, not so much hitting anymore.

D Lee is part of the problem, but not the problem. They could trade him and wouldn't really do much for the team this year. He's in the last year of his contract anyway, so will help the salary cap for next year.

If someone else signs him next year the Cubs should at least get a compensatory draft pick. Not sure how high though.

he would have to be offered arbitration first, which who knows, then has to profile as at least a Type B fist baseman, which i don't think he is right now.

You can bet all young prospects are keeping their fingers crossed that they don't go to the Cubs. With their awesome player development in all. Everything that organization gets their hands on turns to garbage.
