Why is it classless? Its how businesses work. If people aren't working, they're costing you money. You're putting money into them (wages) and getting no output (production).
I get letting them go because there is no more work to be done this year in those positions, but it isn't mentioned anywhere where the team looked for other jobs for them within the organization.
In the past, they've kept these positions going all throughout the season during which they probably didn't sell out every single game. Now that they've sold out every seat this year they've made the absolute maximum profit off of ticket sales. And now their profit margins are even bigger because they're not keeping the 30 people employed throughout the season.
