Cards trade Ludwick, add Westbrook

Padres add Ludwick, Indians get two prospects from San Diego, and St. Louis adds Jake Westbrook. It's nice, at least, that we didn't have to give up any prospects from our already depleted farm system but it really sucks to lose Ludwick. Jon Jay's been playing great so I'm sure that has everything to do with us dealing Ludwick.

I really hope this works out for us.

Quick edit, Cardinals actually get a prospect from SD and Cleveland gets another one. Cleveland gets Corey Kluber and St. Louis gets Nick Greenwood, a LHP.

This move makes me wonder whether or not St. Louis is done yet. Other than that starting pitcher, we really need offense. And now we traded away one of our better hitters and are relying on a rookie in RF. I wonder if these means we're still going to acquire a Kelly Johnson, Stephen Drew, etc. I hope so, because we definitely lack some offense now.

I agree, there is more to come. Is Edmunds still available? And I'm glad Ludwick is gone before the big raise he'd get next year.

i can see the Cards making a move after the deadline -- align themselves with a team who plan to waive a player, submit the claim and strike a deal. I agree that they do need a bat, but I think moving Ludwick now for a return was an OK move.

I believe we got some money for it too which is great considering the big contracts in holliday, pujols, waino, & carp. Plus Jon Jay was hitting over .400 in July. He will obviously dip in that #, but hopefully just stays steady and consistent. Need to get rid of Suppan and then Westbrook will also be nice so as to not have to rush Lohse or Penny back from injury. Not to mention David Freese should be back in a week or two. Time to make that run and let Dusty Baker do his thing with the Reds and tank!
