    EA Sports NCAA Football game

MVP Baseball 2005 is the GOAT of video baseball games, but their Owner Mode always made me chuckle because the game asked you to buy (fake) advertisements inside your created stadium to, and I quote, “spruce up the ballpark.” So if you wanted advertising billboards on the walls of your field...

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

They did block off the McDonalds parking lot with concrete barriers when that closed, so …

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

I also remember the original 1st Avenue HyVee in Cedar Rapids. It was an old brick grocery building like you’d see in a small town somewhere that HyVee had purchased and slapped a HyVee sign on. I only actually went inside once or twice before they tore it down, but I have a vivid memory of...

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

I did see someone on Reddit who said they used to work there at the 1st Avenue CR store (so, yeah, not a confirmed source, take it for what it’s worth) and they said that store hadn't turned a profit in two years. I can believe that, I think, although with the prices HyVee charges and the...

New wrestling facility put on hold - Jamie Pollard statement

That Iowa baseball thing is kinda nuts to me. You can’t tell me the Iowa athletic department isn’t rolling in big-time TV money that they have locked in for the next X number of years … they already don’t share any of that with the academic side, it all stays with the AD, but now they’re telling...

New wrestling facility put on hold - Jamie Pollard statement

This is what the big guys don’t get. They think they can just secede, and they’ll keep rolling on the never ending gravy train? Just who do they expect to play to pad their 10-win seasons every year?

    Great Movie Casting "Misses"

Boy, do I have news for you about the rest of the cast of Grease. Travolta was 23, sure, but Olivia Newton-John was 29. Stockard Channing was 33. Michael Tucci, who played Sonny, was 31. I don’t think a young-looking Winkler would have been too out-of-place.

    Great Movie Casting "Misses"

This sent me down a rabbit hole. Steven Spielberg apparently was the first to get the movie rights for Shrek in 1991, and he envisioned Bill Murray as Shrek and Steve Martin as Donkey. DreamWorks was considering Nicholas Cage as Shrek, but he turned it down because he didn’t want to play a...

    Great Movie Casting "Misses"

To be fair, Hanks wrote and directed That Thing You Do!, including many of the songs you hear in the movie. And it was the genesis of his Playtone music & film production company, which has been pretty successful - so I think he made a good choice here. :)

    Twisters movie out in July

Not many real videos of tornadoes hitting refineries and turning into firenadoes, now are there? Checkmate. Plus these tornadoes turn into the face of the malevolent force out to get our heroes, just like the mummy’s face in the sandstorm in The Mummy (okay, not really, but I could see that...

    Greatest "B" side recordings ever

Just a sampling of what the Beatles put out on their B sides: I Am The Walrus was the B side of Hello, Goodbye. Day Tripper was the B side of We Can Work It Out. Revolution was the B side of Hey, Jude. Come Together was the B side of Something. And yes, Penny Lane and Yellow Submarine were...

The original filmed some scenes in Iowa, you remember, including near Boone.

    ***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

Just blasted through Cedar Rapids now. We were sitting watching TV when it suddenly started blasting what seemed like 60-mph winds. My wife freaked out and insisted we needed to move our plants that we bought Sunday up next to the house so they don’t blow over. Had no clue at all that was coming.

    ***2024 NFL Season***

Oh, I remember the NFL Films compilations of “Hardest Hits” or whatever, that you could get a VHS copy of with a subscription to Sports Illustrated or something. Violence was definitely celebrated back then.

To be fair, most of those were penalties in 1977, too. I think the guy who slammed Bradshaw down was fined, or maybe suspended.
