Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

"Your starting lineup for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team; At point guard, standing 5'8, Luke Warm! At shooting guard, standing 6'1, Avery Age! At small forward, standing 6'3, Noah Talent. At power forward, at 6'5, put your hands together for Addy Quate! And at center, the big man...

Oh, I know. But if you investigate who they're targeting in the portal, they're after forwards. Unless they are keeping their guard pursuits on the DL.

    Tom Brady Roast

Tom has definitely had some absolutely hilarious stuff in his act. Some of his standup bits are really, really funny. But I don't find Bert to be very funny at all. I think Tom outclasses him in every way.

That seems like a pretty good get for them. It would be hilarious if UNI landed a frontcourt player from a power conference team, while Iowa, who also seems to be looking for a forward, strikes out.

SEC/Big Ten Developing Plan to Share Revenue with Athletes

It doesn't matter if you feel that they've been cheated. The billions in damages that the NCAA is going to pay out, say otherwise. And again, regarding the "core mission of academics" argument, you're several decades late in making it. We've been on this path for a long time. The genie...

Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

I don't blame anyone if they don't want to contribute to a collective. It's 100% their choice. But that choice, just like with any choice, comes with the potential for consequences. People might not like the way things work, now, but not liking it, doesn't change the fact that this is how it...

Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Their depth, especially in the back court, is going to be razor thin, unless there's some secret guard they're in on.

Agreed. There's the typical grousing that a group needs more money, but what the Swarm guy is doing is more than that. Or at least it comes off that way.

We passed that point years and years ago. And as far as damages/reparations go, you might think it's BS, but the NCAA is going to end up paying them. They're negotiating the settlement as we speak. Just a matter of time. They'll settle because they don't want to get beat in court. And they...

    2024 Iowa's Best Burger announced

In Ankeny, we liked Ben's Burgers a heck of a lot, but I was sad to hear that they closed. I thought they made one of the better fast food style smash burgers that I've had.

I always keep in mind that awards like this, and frankly almost all awards in general, are completely subjective and arbitrary. They don't mean anything unless you choose to give them value.

SEC/Big Ten Developing Plan to Share Revenue with Athletes

Sort of. If they created a union security agreement a player can refuse to join, or join as an objector, which may require a portion of the dues, but nowhere can they require full union membership, outside of a few very specific industries, where exceptions have been made. But regardless...

SEC/Big Ten Developing Plan to Share Revenue with Athletes

Those leagues and their corresponding unions existed prior to things like free agency and salary caps. Additionally, the potential for longer careers in the established pro leagues, makes some of the benefits that the union provides more attractive. With 4-5 years of max eligibility in a...

SEC/Big Ten Developing Plan to Share Revenue with Athletes

You're already ten steps ahead though. I think there are significant challenges to even get the union formed to negotiate things like a salary cap and levels of pay. And even if the union does get formed, and a star player decides not to join, are they subject to the rules negotiated by the...

SEC/Big Ten Developing Plan to Share Revenue with Athletes

A player can't be forced to join a union, though. If the top end guys decide they don't think that union membership would be beneficial to them, they don't join. And the union doesn't get the benefit of their clout in negotiations.
